the criminally underrated, impossible to classify trophy scars have posted a new song from their upcoming full length on purevolume. in this bears’ humble opinion, this album is going to be among the best to come out this year. hopefully it doesn’t go as widely uncredited as has been the case with their previous releases. jerry jone’s wordplay and intricate melodies are incredibly unique, and the band set a musical pace that take the listener on a hell of a journey. jump on.. bad luck is coming.

fat tony, born anthony lawson obi, is a local rapper from my hometown of houston, tx. he’s well-known around here for his live shows and has been deemed one of URB magazines ‘next 1000 artists.” not to mention, he was the winner of the 2008 houston press winner for the hottest underground hip-hop act in houston.
he’s currently writing and recording for his upcoming album, RABDARGAB. most of you outside of houston probably don’t know what the fuck this is, but there used to be a kid’s commercial to promote reading lists in schools and shit that basically stated:

GAB = GET A BUCK

lydia lands into a huge budget and filmed the video for their first single, i woke up near the sea. song’s off their incredible 2008 release, illuminate. hopefully you pumped that one a few or 30 times last year. i couldn’t get enough of it. the visuals in this video are very impressive, considering i was expecting just about the lowest of budgets.

brett prince is a songwriter from toronto that creates music under the name an explorer. his instrumental tracks are just hopeful enough to spark new ideas and creativity in the head of its listeners without coming off as patronizing or trite. these are the songs you hear in your head on long drives, or when you’re falling in love, or during moments of bravery. if you’re into heart collapse, tycho (who i’ll post about in the near future), boards of canada, etc.. definitely grab his 2 ep’s and demo/single tracks (which he’s been kind enough to put up for free download).

n.a.s.a. had A LOT of hype. after hearing “gifted” and seeing the tracklisting, it was pretty much slated to be one of the craziest and diverse collaboration projects in quite some time.
but um…did somebody forget how to make a record? aside from a handful of good songs, the album is the most inconsistent album and lacks a strong replay value. after the initial 3 or 4 listens it took me to review the album, i’ve gone back maybe 4 times, and only to listen to the songs i enjoyed. ah, well. maybe next time.

i’m not big on the dream in general, but he’s had a few good club songs and i liked his work on gch’s cookie jar (srs). anyway, yeezy lays it down on this track, and the song is a typical dance floor anthem. and um…apparently, the dream and kanye are collaborating on an entire fucking album? not sure i’d want that, but we’ll see if it ever even sees the light of day.

solid show. i caught the premiere last wednesday (after a very important thing — lost) and i was impressed. i figured a sketch comedy show from the man would be a bit dumbed down, but it fared pretty well for a pilot. i’m looking forward to catching more episodes and hopefully it takes off.
(sidebar: i feel obligated to say this while we’re on the topic of comedy central sketch shows. although it’ll never happen, i’m still wanting the return of the chappelle show.)
