tv recap: the wire – season one (2002)

i’m not sure if most of you know this, but out of all the bears, i definitely watch the most television. not that i sit in front of the tv for hours on end, but i usually partake in enjoying a great set of TV on DVD.
after having numerous recommendations from reputable sources, i decided to take on the wire. being unemployed and an overall lazy d-bag, this was pretty much a no-brainer. anyway, i just finished one, and i couldn’t possibly be happier that i’ve started on this series. it is overall pretty frightening to think of this as fiction, because it’s hard to pick apart the facts that it’s not real by any means. from everything to the cinematography to the make-up to the casting, the writers and directors of this show have done a pristine job at representing the drug game.
if i wasn’t so biased towards LOST, i’d give the wire the award for the best pilot season in the history of TV dramas. the plot line is equal parts intricate and intriguing, the characters are vicious and endearing and the casting is impeccable.
anyway, i’m already 1/3 of the way into season two. so far, i’m nowhere near as impressed with season two as i was with one, but several colleagues have mentioned it being a bit sub-par in comparison. i won’t hold it against them, though. season one was a tough act to follow. more to come later. any of our readers fans of the wire?

By far my favorite show on TV (and I love Lost too). I really liked Season 2, even though it starts slow. If you loved Season 1 though, Season 3,4, and 5 will get you right back into the show.
I made it into the middle of 5, I can’t remember why I stopped, got busy probably. I remember season 2 being my least favorite. Stick with it though man, amazing show!
