bootleg: lupe fiasco – live at in houston, tx / steppin’ lasers [full audio mp3] (april 26, 2010)

30 04 2010

and now, the headliner. lupe’s live show was completely unexpected. having seen him twice before, nothing compared to this show. his glow in the dark tour set was matched with a crowd 2/3 empty and complete houston summer sun, and his bun b and friends set was a mere four songs, leaving much to be desired. accompanied by one of the best hip-hop drummers i’ve ever seen and a full band, lupe fiasco touched base on his entire discography, including a mixtape cut and five new joints. the encore provided us with the livest version of ‘swang on em’ with bun b you’ve ever heard, too.

enough chattin. tracklist beneath the jump.

a-trak – trizzy turnt up (2010)

30 04 2010

despite his obnoxious choice in music at times, i pretty much love every remix a-trak does. he’s just one of the best around, and no matter how unironically i hate the original version of this song (except that beat!), a-trak puts a nice touch on it. this is due off his upcoming mixtape, for which you see the artwork posted above.

bootleg: b.o.b. – live at in houston, tx / steppin’ lasers [full audio mp3] (april 26, 2010)

30 04 2010

my homie jay came through once again with a bootleg. this time, he was on hand with us at the houston, tx stop of the steppin’ lasers tour to catch b.o.b. on the run to his first album release, which he’d see the day after this show. b.o.b. definitely went over well with the crowd, as he jammed through past and present b.o.b, using a full band to maximize the entire experience. i gotta say, i’ve yet to see a direct support act get more than 1/2 the love b.o.b. got during his one hour set. the tracklist is below the cut. enjoy.

this is mainly for the other 2/3 bears of this blog, who weren’t in attendance because they are both stupid and broke. and i’m the one who’s unemployed. luv yall.

big sean – made [f. drake] (2010)

30 04 2010

well this is the week of huge releases. here’s one of the premiere leaks of one of sean’s song off of his release-date-less finally famous. i’m loving the chemistry here. i was definitely a skeptic before, but the two definitely seemed to work well off each other. drake stepped up his recent slump on the mic, and with sean on the track, that comes as no surprise. this song DOES have tags though, but they’re few and far between. will update with the CDQ when that drops. get em, got em, good.

video: wale – a day in the life at coachella (2010)

30 04 2010

belvedere vodka and their team worked with wale’s crew on the day of his coachella performance to catalog the day’s events, which included wale running a mile in his eggplant foamposites to make it to his show on time. and from the looks of it, he definitely had a successful show.

jay electronica – the ghost of christopher wallace [f. diddy] (2010)

30 04 2010

jay elec-yarmulke drops another hot one. this song is 6 minutes + long, so tell me why elec stops rapping around the 3 minute mark? diddy is absolutely atrocious in everything he does nowadays. from verbally jerking off ciroc vodka on a daily basis to ad-libbing for 3 minutes on a song about his former best friend, this guy has no more credibility left. besides that whole…multimillionaire thing. regardless, jay is nasty as usual. good to see him actually releasing music for a change.

video: local natives – full live set from sxsw at stubb’s (march 20, 2010)

29 04 2010

the wwm vs. sxsw video invasion continues, better late than never, with this installment featuring los angeles natives, local natives. filmed at stubb’s indoor stage during the the rachael ray day party, the local natives played to a packed house and more than won over a whole slew of new fans as well as made the wwm bears very happy, not that the free food and drinks weren’t doing their part. easily one of the most impressive sets we’d see all sxsw.

be sure to check out grizzly’s coverage of last weekend’s local natives show here in houston. check that link hereas well as the additional local natives live videos after the jump.

i wish i could sing in three part harmonies. by myself.

sleigh bells – tell em (2010)

29 04 2010

have we mentioned enough who the absolute loudest band was at this year’s sxsw? the booming bass of sleigh bells rattled more than just bones, as the m.i.a. approved group are set to release their new album treats. when ms. arulpragasam isn’t adding another icon to her desktop dock, she’s leaking sleigh bells tracklistings and artwork over on p4k’s twitter. quite annoyingly too. oh well. get hype with it.

treats is out 5/11.

29 04 2010

bucolic timelapses are kinda band of horses’ thing nowadays. and that’s fine with us. i almost feel like i’m getting my yellowstone national park hiking exercise right here from the comfort and safety of my blogging station. no bear attacks here. just horses. bands of ‘em.

infinite arms is out 8/18.

video: delorean – grow (live at montjuïc castle) (2010)

29 04 2010

delorean are about to embark on a bi-coastal tour through their homeland of spain and the states, but not before they stormed the montjuïc castle and get all beachside dub, playing their song “grow” from their newly released album, subiza.

video: john legend + the roots – wake up everybody [live earth] (2010)

29 04 2010

it pains me to think about the end results of what’s to come of the new john legend album, solely based on the fact that the roots will be producing and working on it with him. new album called wake up featuring this here song, according to mr. legend. and pete wentz is an asshole.

stream: kele – tenderoni (2010)

29 04 2010

with all the new music dropping lately, it was almost easy to overlook the first single from one of my favorite vocalists. kele (of bloc party fame) gives us a listen to his first single from his upcoming solo album, the boxer. personally, i’m with the single. it’s not mind-blowing, but it’s a straight club track (spank rock producer XXXchange to thank for that) with kele’s voice soaring on the track, but not dominating it. it’s definitely peaked my interest for the rest of the album. top 10 material on this one. the boxer drops june 21st.

eminem – not afraid (2010)

29 04 2010

so here we have it, the first single from eminem’s upcoming recovery. pretty damn interesting, to say the least. the high melodies completely caught me off guard upon first listen. i can’t hate on the man for writing something positive, and of course, it’s good to know that he didn’t like relapse or his stupid ass accent either. overall, it’s a huge step up from a lot of his recent material, and it IS a lead single without bouncy pop hooks or celebrity bashing, so i’m good. boi-1da on the production, killed it.

drake – find your love [prod. by kanye west] (2010)

29 04 2010

who the fuck is designing these covers for drake? completely atrocious. new track from thank me later. the most important thing here is kanye’s beat, since he’s been a complete ghost as of late. this beat is massive and should be given the highest of fives and the biggest of daps. we mees you, yeezy.

either way, this song is definitely for the ladies, but i’m (and panda, as discussed on aim) feeling it, as expected. a bit on the repetitive side, but i appreciate the fact that it’s not droned out in a syrupy autotune.

video: patrick stump & the roots – if you think you’re lonely now [bobby womack cover] (2010)

28 04 2010

this is just absolutely fantastic. i’ve never been into fall out boy, but i do love stump’s voice. add the roots and a bobby womack cover to the mix and hot damn. with the r&b/funk/soul influence pouring out of p stump these days, i’m really looking forward to his solo full length.

cam’ron – ur killin’ me [f. kid cudi] + i don’t know niggas [f. fabolous] (2010)

28 04 2010

knock knock, killa cam. two new songs off his upcoming mixtape with vado and dj drama entitled boss of all bosses 2.5. no tags and both of these are superb. cudi, albeit a very random collab, works well with cam on the hooks and loso kills his verse like just about every guest verse he’s done in the past 3 years.

stream: francis and the lights – it’ll be better (2010)

28 04 2010

this is more jerome’s territory, as he’s a huge fan, but he’s off scouring the streets of dallas, texas, selling his body for meth and klondike bars. francis and the lights have been a bit MIA as of late, but now they’re back, seemingly out of nowhere with an entire LP to unleash upon the world. now’s as good a time as any, as the crew have been opening up drake’s away from home tour. definitely good for them. the album shouldn’t take much of your time, as the estimated running time is around half an hour. getcha some below the cut.

PANDA EDIT: roshan is a douche. i was trying to post this at the same time as him. now i’m gonna go smoke my meth and eat my klondike bars. at the same time. totally worth it.

video: lupe fiasco – i’m beamin’ (2010)

28 04 2010

after seeing this song performed live and seeing these ridiculously clean visuals for this song, it’s safe to say ‘i’m beamin’ has grown on me a bit. i was definitely underwhelmed at first, but a couple of the new songs get me excited about lasers. not to mention, lupe’s completely massive live show.

game – ain’t no doubt about it [f. justin timberlake and pharrell] (2010)

28 04 2010

the r.e.d. album is shaping up real nicely. loving what game’s doing with pharrell. i’m wondering though, hasn’t he sent out shots to pharrell in the past? no mind, as they’ve thrown justin timberlake in the mix with a classic neptunes sound. this almost reminds me of something off of justin’s first album.

below the cut, catch a video for ‘shake,’ which has cameos from stacey dash (yowza!), the clipse and…ron artest?

show recap: local natives (april 24, 2010)

27 04 2010

all photos courtesy of mary rehak

it’s not every day that houston gets a high profile, across-the-board-approved indie stalwart to come and rock through our city, so upon hearing that both beach house and local natives would be rolling through houston in a two-day time span, the collective populus that gives a shit about this kind of stuff began to clamor with excitement. naturally, the bears procrastinated a few minutes too long and had to pass on beach house due to a sell out. that didn’t stop us from lizzing from sheer glee and catching local natives, a band we’ve so dearly cared about since the first incarnation of this here blog.

we still have SXSW footage coming your way in the next couple days via our good buddy josh cornejo, so keep a look out.

hit the jump for the rest of the recap.
