video: currensy – the hangover [f. mikey rocks; live] (2010)

31 08 2010

neat footage from spitta’s show in chicago this past weekend. up top, it’s ‘hangover’ with mikey rocks, and below the jump it’s “address.” both from the extremely dope pilot talk.

justin bieber – runaway love remix [f. kanye west & raekwon] (2010)

31 08 2010

EDIT: CDQ.

well, i know everyone was worried about this, but i’ll be damned if mr. west didn’t go and sample wu-tang’s “wu-tang clan ain’t nothin’ to fuck with” for this justin effing bieber remix. that’s mad science if i’ve ever seen it. will update when a tagless version drops.

asher roth + nottz raw – enforce the law (2010)

31 08 2010

asher’s really coming correct lately. him and nottz are teaming up for the rawth ep, which should be dropping next month. if this track’s any indication, it should be a great release.

lady gaga – living on the radio + you and i [live] (2010)

31 08 2010

so this crazy broad is finished with her fame monster ball tour, yadda yadda. here are two live recordings of some new joints that’ll be on her next album, which has no release date as of now. i’m loving the piano-driven renditions of these, but who knows what bastardized form will end up on the actual record.

video: the walkmen – driver 8 [REM cover] (2010)

31 08 2010

… and so it ends with the walkmen covering the final song on av club’s “undercover” series, and boy-howdy, do they turn fables of the reconstruction‘s “driver 8” into a full sounding walkmen song. it’s still got brooding, romantic sound of the walkmen with that sweet peter buck guitar line.

since this wraps up the undercover series, av club wants you to vote on your favorite cover. my votes cast justin townes earle’s take on springsteen and clem snide’s rendition of journey into the top spots. thoughts?

lisbon is out september 14.

matt and kim – cameras (2010)

31 08 2010

head on over to matt and kim’s facebook page and for a mere “like” you can listen to their new single “cameras” from their forthcoming album sidewalks. it’s a pretty far cry from their hyperkinetic buzzy songs of past. it’s got synths, horns and all sorts of new business for matt and kim. they grow up so fast!

sidewalks is out november 2.

video: arcade fire – we used to wait (2010)

31 08 2010

boy, i hope you have google chrome because the always innovative arcade fire have teamed with google and their technology to bring you a personalized viewing experience for their new video for “we used to wait.”

the video is pop-up based so you’ll want a fast connection and yes, google chrome to avoid any kind of crashing. hopefully your childhood home resides in the suburbs as well. that certainly helps.

the suburbs is out now.

t-pain – rap song [f. rick ross] (2010

30 08 2010

lol-worthy shit right here. t-pain takes you down memory lane, paraphrasing some of hip-hop’s biggest songs while insinuating love-making sessions to aforementioned songs. (see: outkast’s ‘elevators’ and ‘b.o.b.’, weezy’s ‘milli,’ and 50′s ‘in the club.)

video: fabolous – lights out (2010)

30 08 2010

on some serious hood shit right about now. the jigga-sampled “lights out” from fab’s latest EP (which got pushed back to mid september, even though it leaked) gets some slick looking visuals to go with it.

video: jimmy fallon and company – emmys opening (2010)

30 08 2010

well here’s the best thing about last night’s emmys. the likes of jimmy fallon, jon hamm, tina fey, some glee nerds, joel mchale, jorge garcia, jane lynch and betty white join forces for the opener, which is fueled by the boss’ ‘born to run.’ you know this is gonna be huge, so just watch it if you missed it last night.

video: dallas green – new song [f. tegan and sara] (2010)

30 08 2010

dallas green/city & colour premiered a new song deep within the loins of canada. what better way to do that than to get the sisters quin as your backing vocal harmonies and every other girl in the venue screaming while the songs playing? i know, i can’t think of a better way, either.

stream: justin townes earle – harlem river blues (2010)

30 08 2010

one of the best-dressed men in music (just check out the billy reid gear above) drops off his third album for streaming via the fine people at NPR. i’m on my first run through, and it’s definitely sounding like a great follow-up to last year’s midnight at the movies. vocally, earle’s voice sounds as strong as ever. the biggest difference seems to be the diversity of his musical influences seem to stand out more than before. you can hear bits of everything from elvis to johnny to southern gospel sprinkled throughout. all in all, it’ll probably be the best (and possibly only) album of it’s kind by years’ end. harlem river blues drops september 14th.

buy: emily driskill – notes on a story of a band that will not die alone (2010)

30 08 2010

a good friend of ours, emily driskill, has just released another book of photographs that she’s taken over the years. the main focal point this time around is someone who i’m sure all of you have heard of. (hint: it’s brand new) over the course of the last few years, driskill has compiled snapshots of the band in their element and put em all together in this neat package that’s bound to be a staple in your coffee table book collection.

preview the book.

review: taking back sunday – live from orensanz [CD/DVD] (2010)

29 08 2010

a good friend of mine got a hold of this album for me, and it’s my duty to review it. i always thought about doing a review for this just because…why not, right? regardless, TBS has reformed with their original lineup and has ostracized the lineup that’s featured on this monster, so this will be the last you’ll hear of matt fazzi and matt rubano when it comes to taking back sunday. in the meantime, check out the review + videos below the jump.

the game – higher [f. jay electronica and swizz beatz] (2010)

29 08 2010

game’s gotta stop letting the best songs off his album. this puts the count at TWO good songs, y’all. swizzy produces this monster (no ye) with game and jay spitting something mean. will be on the r.e.d. album, but then again, probably not.
