there’s been quite a few britt daniels sightings here in houston, but if you were in the quartier pigalle area of paris, you might have seen the whole of spoon performing a famous take away show. check out vids, with fantastic scenery too, of the austin band performing “the ghost of you lingers,” “got nuffin,” and “black like me.”

the chuck ragan acoustic project with fiddles, or collectively just ‘chuck ragan,’ took a break from touring with social d (why couldn’t he have been on my date?!) to perform “let it rain” from his second album, 2009′s gold country over at punkvideosrock.
the dude also did an 11 minute interview which can be viewed after the jump. humblest of dudes too.

bye bye lyrics video. r.e.m.’s got an actual moving vid for their collapse into now track “mine smell like honey.” the clip plays like a flipbook with stipe doing his best prone position as he’s tossed up a flight of stairs.
collapse into now is out march 8th, but don’t expect a tour anytime soon.

i guess they want all their fans who flocked to local natives back? just kidding, y’all. the seattle quintet is back with album art, a release date of may 3rd (via sub pop) and a brand new song for everyone. it’s exactly the multi-layered, sonically-terrific beauty you’ve come to expect from peckhold and company.

guilty simpson just >a href=”http://music.vtechphones.com/2010/12/roc-c-ox2-the-d/”>dropped a new mixtape with roc c, and although i’m not huge on either party, guilty simpson-related material gets spins from me every once in a while. soul professa put out this free EP in relation to the mixtape, throwing together all of his songs together untagged and mastered to make a neat little EP.

i guess you can say that seeing killa perform live with the niceguys finally put me on to him. granted, he’s still a texas rapper at heart and i’ve never been a huge fan of the shit that got big back in 2005, but i’m willing to give this mixtape a shot. tracklisting after the jump.

boy i tell you what…when robert rodriguez sells out, he SELLS OUT. after hooking up with danny trejo for machete, i see he found it natural to rekindle that whole thing, and managed to throw kobe bryant, nike shoes, bruce willis and kanye west in the mix for good measure. the first trailer (above) has been out for a few days, but the second trailer dropped today (the one with kanye as ‘the boss’), and you can catch that below the jump.
that being said, this will be cool. kobe’s the man.

the lonely island hook up with ms. minaj during her stint at SNL this past weekend. pretty good stuff; i’m gonna have to start doing this dance around nursing homes more often.

what happened to the middle americana wobbliness of i’m wide awake it’s morning through cassadaga-era bright eyes? as if being born again, conor oberst releases his 7th album under the bright eyes moniker, this time a conceptual piece on ufo’s, lizard men and time travel, or at least that’s what the opening monologue confesses. no, this is the melodious, risk-taking bright eyes we’ve all been yearning for since oberst settled into the naked acoustics of midwestern folk. stream the new album, the people’s key below, courtesy of npr.
also, you can check out the making of the people’s key lp (literally, the lp) in all its glossy die-cut limited-edition glory here.

two new xv tracks in as many as a day-ish. first song is his own take on jay and ye’s “h.a.m.,” which is lyrically more consistent than the original. as for smallville, our man j. cole takes over production duties for the cut.

i thought this was surely going to be a tribute to that green to the tune of rozay and t.i.’s monster song from the no mercy sessions. regardless, good lineup and an even better song.

new single (third?) from rolling papers. produced by the team behind black + yellow, and this one’s pretty solid for the whole pop-hip-hop-weed rap. and it’s NOT about rolling up marijuana cigarettes either. we’re talking about whips now.

As anyone who has heard the song “I Was a Teenage Anarchist” (was being the operative word) from 2010’s well received, if not completely commercial album White Crosses, can tell you: Against Me! have come a long way from the primitive one man anarchist project that Tommy Gabel conceived back in 1997. Once spearheaded by Gabel’s throat-wrenching political lyrics and a brash sense of leftist politics, the band has flourished into a stadium sized outfit with blue collar anthems that’d make Springsteen proud. And of course with such a progression towards a friendlier pop sound, there were bound to be detractors, but as of Houston’s sold out Warehouse Live show this past Tuesday, there were none to be found amongst the fist-pumping throng of die-hard (former) anarcho punks.

ms. minaj gets real shifty and channels all her kindred spirits/characters/personalities for a video whose budget is clearly ballin’ outta control. drake’s in this one and is as awkward as you expect, and definitely not as slick as he portrays in this slew of behind the scenes photos. good choice of single, though. definitely see this one blowing up.
even though she’s a bi-polar freak show living out cinderella fantasies in music videos with drake.

detox is shaping up…to be a giant disappointment. peep this recovery throwaway that has a pretty great beat that dre didn’t even produce. alex da kid (yeah, the guy responsible for “nothin on you” and “love the way you lie”) did a fine job here.
who the hell is skylar grey, and why do i feel like i’m watching japanese anime for american children when i hear those two words together?
edit: posted this a while ago, so the main reason for a repost is because it has single artwork and it’s now CDQ.

adele’s 21 is simply fantastic. it’s not out yet, but i’m sure there will be much more promo in the coming weeks as the release date nears. for now, we’ll take donald glover and jamie of the xx’s take on the superb first single from the record. “rolling in the deep” is fantastic as a stand alone, but i definitely enjoy this entirely new realm to the cut. oh and this song’s posting is super late. i’ve been sitting on this shit for about a week, and just now remembered. i saw it on another blog and it kinda kicked me in my but a lil’ bit. oh well.

this is a great interview for the sole fact that lupe isn’t the bitchy, gripey shell of who he’s been for the past two years. he’s all smiles and gleamin’ off the successful campaign to release LASERS in a retail form – this interview follows that story and he has about 25 minutes worth of shit he had to say. good stuff. part II after the jump.

so this isn’t good at all. after the commercial success of “black and yellow,” i’m surprised that THIS is what he chose as his follow up single from rolling papers. speaking of which, catch his nappy headed performance of the steeler anthem on lopez tonight below the jump.
