this boy drake’s on a roll. boi-1da produces take care’s first single, and it’s only a matter of time before this song blows up. if you’ve ever been a fan of the sing/rap formula drake seems to have perfected (or ruined, depending on your taste), then you’ll love (or hate) this. hope he keeps the features to a minimum on album dos.

the 7th season of IASIP is ready to kick off in just about 6 weeks. after hearing rob MAC-el-hinney ballooned 50 lbs for this season “just to be funny,” watching this trailer really puts the pieces together. i’m really looking forward to seeing how prolific and heartfelt the gang can get this season.
and for god’s sake, philly – lighten the fuck up on everyone. you destroyed in the nfl free agency, got a new season of TV about your city AND took away hunter pence from houston? dicks.

NPR comes through in timely fashion yet again. this time, for the rhode island folk festival, where bands like river city extension (!), tegan and sara, freelance whales, delta spirit and more have full sets up for streaming. i will be updating this intermittently as more sets go live.

and just like that, what was probably the game’s #1 selling point to the r.e.d. album hits the internet. and for as much collective shit i’ve given dr. dre and snoop dogg over the past few years respectively, this is a great collaboration on all counts. and for those wondering, snoop’s limited to about 8 bars tops.

and big sean’s shine with the roots comes full circle on last night’s fallon, where he kills a medley of ‘i do it’ and ‘marvin,’ sans kanye of course. gotta love black thought gettin’ silly with sean.

not a music video, but a studio montage of a slow burning cut from weekend at burnies. apparently, the reeferlution will be televised…or something.

“one silver dollar” originally appeared on the 1954 western flick river of no return, sung by a dance hall singer played by marilyn monroe. it’s a breathy acoustic number sung in that breathy monroe-manner. the kills’ alison mosshart takes a stab at such suggestiveness.

naturally, when something is hyped to hell, it’s gonna keep showing up. so when the weeknd finally played his first show in t-dot last weekend, there were plenty of bootleggers on hand. gj from kanyetothe.com was nice enough to make a neat mixtape of the night’s events, complete with a great cover. i’m still holding out from the soundboard recordings, cause the crowd can get a bit obnoxious intermittently.

the avett brothers are nearly “three quarters” of the way done with their follow up to their 2009 breakthrough i and love and you with rick rubin once again helming the album’s production. in the meantime, seth avett has been honoring the late elliott smith at recent concerts, notably with this duet featuring jessica lea mayfield of “twilight,” from smith’s final album, from a basement on the hill. check out the song above.

this is getting hilarious now. here are some quotables from a chicago radio station interview earlier:
-”i’m the best pure lyricist in hip-hop”
-”i’m the most talked about commodity in hip-hop today”
-kanye west never said anything to pusha t because he is “jet fuel” for pharrell williams and now “jet fuel” for kanye west
-”campaign of terror” will continue until jay-z intervenes
so basically, all of this is a ploy to get jay’s attention? this guy is foolin. anyway, listen to the interview and his premiere of the kanye west diss, “everybody told me to straighten it out.”
listen to the interview via FSD.
[EDIT; the CDQ of the diss dropped]

the frenetic and gritty death on two wheels has been in the studio recording their new album as of late, and thus – plan on releasing three songs in this same vein. a live studio performance is probably the best preview you could ask for, as it’s definitely the most accurate representation of the band.
two more coming soon!

three, count ‘em, three new songs from frightened rabbit have sprung forth from a tour-only ep the band has been selling on their current tour supporting death cab for cutie.
there’s a studio version of “scottish winds,” which we’ve all heard in some form or another here or there, and two duets with fellow scots, “fuck this place” featuring tracyanne campbell (camera obscura), and “the work” with archie fisher.
stream all three songs after the jump.
