did as cities burn reunite? (2011)

31 08 2011

i’ve been a huge fan of all three of this band’s albums, no matter how drastic the departure from the previous album. that being said, the group has started an “official” twitter, where they all but tell you they’re reunited. they’re asking band friends to give them a RT and spread the word for an impending announcement come september 9th. not only that, their avatar boasts the cover of the debut record, son i loved you at your darkest, which happens to be my personal favorite.

is tj coming back? are they touring? new album? either way, stay tuned and get excited.

follow as cities burn on twitter.

t.i. is released from prison (2011)

31 08 2011

while his sentence is not completely over, it allows him to finish what’s left in a halfway house. after heading back to prison in a huge lapse in judgment, t.i. is getting chance #3 to make things right for himself. no mercy fell quite flat, and with promises of returning to the t.i. of year’s past, new music seems to be the focus this time around.

what are the chances that t.i. gets his life back on track versus him getting DMX’d into another stupid situation that sends him straight back?

free album: the-dream – 1977 (2011)

31 08 2011

here we have a brand new, very free album from one of my favorite r&b singers, the-dream. coming off of a divorce has gotta provide some premium fuel (sorry, this analogy is corny as hell) for a new album, whose release is against the wishes of the def jam execs entirely. a few singing features and a lonewolf rap feature from big sean will surely make this a good one. tracklisting below the jump. i’d grab it while i can.

free album: dear and the headlights – demos (2011)

31 08 2011

the criminally underrated gentleman of the late dear and the headlights have offered up a goodbye treat, putting up a collection of 30 demos recorded between 2005 and 2010. i wouldn’t necessarily use this collection as a jumping off point to the band if you’re a new listener (start with small steps, heavy hooves), but fans of the band (and great indie rock in general) will dig this.

hollywood floss – stalker (2011)

31 08 2011

our good friend hollywood floss is getting ready to drop one fan at a time in a few weeks here (sept. 20) and this here is the first single. produced by internet phenom brandun deshay is a nice addition to the cut as well. stay tuned for a feature from floss in the coming weeks to coincide with the release.

lil wayne – tha carter IV interlude mix (2011)

31 08 2011

you know that time when you were listening to the carter IV, and thought to yourself — “it’d be really awesome to get this tech n9ne verse, that nas verse, the bun b verse AND the andre 3000 verse all in one place!” well, the internet listens. it takes all of the features (including wayne’s intro) from the interlude and outro to make a monster cypher-like track for all to enjoy.

video: wale – that way [f. rick ross and jeremih] (2011)

31 08 2011

this song (according to my friends) has been blowin’ up on the radio as of late, and i can’t say i’m surprised. jeremih definitely has that radio appeal, and ross has been on a rampage these last few years. looks like these small additions to wale’s sound ARE helpin’ to propel him in the spotlight. above all else, the video hoes in this one are tip-top.

mixtape: cyhi the prynce – jack of all trades (2011)

31 08 2011

so g.o.o.d. music’s cyhi the prynce drops a mixtape from the thinnest air on the internet. but this one’s got my interest piqued. jack of all trades, paired up with the tracklisting seems to be of a fairly cool concept, right? speaking of tracklisting, hit the jump for that.

video: the golden filter – s y n d r o m e s [teaser] (2011)

31 08 2011

after a fairly disappointing debut album, i’m ready for these guys to try and wow me again. regardless of the disappointment, they always rope me in with their cryptic videos and shitty teasers like this. autoplay on embed, so head to the vimeo page to watch.

ryan adams – wasted years [iron maiden cover] (2011)

30 08 2011

trust me when is say that no one is more excited about this than me: on today’s bbc radio2 show, ryan adams performed an acoustic version of iron maiden’s 1986 somewhere in time classic “wasted years.” from a british metal band’s first foray into the world of synths to the delicate fingerpicking of adams, “wasted years” sounds as good now as it did then.

ashes & fire is out october 11.

ben folds five – tell me what i did (2011)

30 08 2011

streogum has got an exclusive stream of a new (old) ben folds five song. “tell me what i did” was allegedly only performed a handful of times live and is a rare gem of a tune. for his career-retrospective album, ben ‘avengers assembled’ his band to studio-record the song for the rarities portion of his triple disc set, the best imitation of myself: a retrospective (out october 11).

stream the song at the stereogum link below.

video: st. vincent – cruel [live on letterman] (2011)

30 08 2011

sporting an asymmetrical dress and some doe-eyes that would make jayma mays jealous, annie clark was positively beaming last night during her performance of the synth-friendly “cruel” on the late show with david letterman. the song comes to us from her album strange mercy, which is out september 13.

i especially love the way she just stands around in front of the microphone as dave greets the entire st. vincent band, clark last.

BBC renews luther for a third season (2011)

30 08 2011

i’m sure a lot of you haven’t heard of luther, and that’s all good. the BBC drama is a cross between the things you’ve grown to love about dexter and the wire. i mean the wire comparisons are loose and solely based around idris elba being a badass, but if you’re a fan of vigilante/rogue cop dramas, then this is definitely up your alley. and for those with netflix, the entire first season is up for streaming. and it’s only six episodes, at that.

anyway, good news here! season 2, while done airing in the UK, is set to air in the US in about a month.

video: pusha t – feeling myself [f. kevin cossom] (2011)

29 08 2011

my second least favorite cut off of the fear of god, but in spite of that – it’s making the cut for the fear of god 2. another single, another video, more coke reference. pusha t is fairly consistent, isn’t he?

free ep: sims – wildlife [prod. by lazerbeak] (2011)

29 08 2011

doomtree’s not my thing, unless it’s in small doses. however, put that mastermind lazerbeak behind the boards, and i’m probably ‘on board’ with the release. here’s a slew of songs recorded in 09-10 that they decided to release for free.

video: foo fighters – hot buns [NSFW] (2011)

29 08 2011

first of all, a ‘no homo’ is totally necessary here. in total rock star (?) fashion and coming off of a VMA win, the foo fighters put together a gay porn “parody” of a bunch of truck driver shower antics in honor of their upcoming tour. it’s pretty ridiculous.
