yes, at eight minutes, tune-yards performed one weird and lengthy new jam at this year’s pop montreal festival. the always confident merrill garbus is accompanied by a a few backup singers pulling a “dirty projectors” round as well as her signature ukelele.

when arbitrary stock footage wasn’t enough, will sheff turned to his father’s home movies, all shot on super 8 (non ironically too!), to compose the latest video for okkervil river’s “your past life as a blast” from this year’s i am very far.

for their pink floyd cover during pink floyd week on late night with jimmy fallon, the boys of mgmt (and deerhunter’s bradford cox, dressed as joey ramone) reached waaaay back into the archives and bursted forth with a psychedelic rendition of floyd’s “lucifer sam” from their debut album the piper at the gates of dawn. watch it above.

the knux used to only awkwardly fuse rap and rock, throwing in a grimy guitar riff into songs like “roxxanne”. on letterman last night, the duo turned full-out awesome rock machine for a performance of “run” from their newest album eraser (out now).

i always just kinda “liked” i am the avalanche. vinnie caruna was involved so i was on board. turns out, a 6 year absence is all they needed to make ‘the’ song. “holy fuck” is huge slap in the face of a return of the band. new energy, new tunes, a lot of gang vocals and plenty of good times to follow. avalanche united, the bands follow-up LP, hits stores october 11th.

king uncaged, huh? we’ve all been here before. he comes back, puts out an “i’m back” song and a few months later, the world had no mercy and his irresponsibly, driving around with lean ass gets thrown back in jail for basically another year. will tip overcome his own misjudgment and be a successful rapper full time again? or is this guy headed for the road earl simmons took? only time will tell, but for now, he’s free.

not only has wale successfully had this trending on twitter for 12 hours, but he’s also changed the way ladies order drinks at your favorite neighborhood club spot. both of things happened before i actually listened to the song and realized wale might actually have his first solo hit here. throwing miguel on the hook duties was an excellent touch as well. ambition hits the first of november.

while guilty simpson, sean price and black milk’s project had promises to be a lot greater than it was, the album kinda fell flat in many places. that being said, “chewbacca” was definitely a sleeper ‘hit’ on the record, which is why we’re seeing a video for the cut in the first place. perfect music video.

the mars volta’s sibling band zechs marquise is embarking on their second album release, and sure enough, it crept up very quickly. gettin’ paid was released yesterday, september 27, which isn’t surprising because EVERYTHING came out yesterday. be sure to stream the album below and stay tuned for more news. hi sargent house!

so lydia is definitely back. and while this time, it’s only lead singer leighton antelman, he’ll be releasing paint it golden digitally on october 4th, which is underway in the next week. assailants was a little flat, but this single is definitely a sign of things to come. he’s also got a bulk of tour dates opening for all get out, which can be seen here, which is also where you can find the most updated information in the lydia camp.

if you’re wondering where i found this, it was the wwm inbox. i mainly wanted to post it to commemorate the 20th anniversary release of nevermind yesterday, and to basically show my appreciate for the record in general. it was one of the first records my parents bought me as an adolescent, so it’ll always hold a special place in my grungy ass heart. so take a quick retrospective, and be sure to check out some of the other videos on the site as well.
