hash brown – bittersweet [feat. hollywood floss] (2012)

artwork credit: weworemasks

remember that last post where i rendered my services available for artwork? well, i’m glad to be apart of the release of “bittersweet,” as the pairing of floss and hash approached me to do the artwork for their new drop, which features the two’s meanest bars over common’s “sweet,” produced by chicago’s own no i.d. i got the chance to talk to hash (real name: ryan rayford) about his upcoming projects, including rap mayor 2, as well, so be sure to hit the jump for those as well.

weworemasks: There’s no filler on “Bittersweet.” What was your sole reasoning to use such a tough beat (one that’s been used for a fair share of diss tracks and what not) and incorporate a more grittier set of rhymes than you usually do?

hasHBrown: That beat by No I.D. on ‘Sweet’ was probably the hardest track produced all year [last year], in my opinion. The beat just makes you want to snap on somebody…anybody! At the end of the day, Floss and I are MC’s, we can both go – and we can both spit. Sometimes you don’t really need a “concept,” you just need a beat to go in on.

weworemasks: On topic of Rap Mayor 2, Will it predominantly contain original tracks, or will you be using other producers’ beats?

hasHBrown: Folks should expect Rap Mayor 2 to be more direct and concise than the first Rap Mayor project. The first one was pretty lengthy, this one is straight to the point. Expect collabs from me with folks outside the T.H.E.M. family tree, expect some freestyles, some original joints, and some previews of the next project.

weworemasks: What’s on the horizon in your (or T.H.E.M.’s) camp in the near future? Projects, tours, and what not.

hasHBrown: There are so many of us in the camp it’s hard to keep up I think. I know everyone has projects either done or almost done to be released. Thurogood and I are working on an EP, just us two over some original production. Hollywood Floss has probably 2-3 album’s worth of stuff already done. John Dew is done with a new LP, just lining up everything to release it. Kidd just dropped last month, Dustin Prestige has a few projects pending, and more videos on the way. Rob Jay stays working so there’s a lot going on for T.H.E.M. right now. We’ve got some shows coming up this fall/winter, possible tour top of 2013. As for me, I’ve got RM2 dropping shortly. I’ll have a maxi-single “1994″ dropping soon after that to start promoting the new LP ‘The Last Cassette Playa‘ which I’ll release in 2013. Definitely have your people hit up www.them713.com and follow @THEM713 on twitter.

weworemasks: Back to the main topic – when can your fans expect the release of Rap Mayor 2?

hasHBrown: Expect RM2 in the streets early October, and online mid-late October. I’m servicing the people first this time around before we flood the internet with new mixtape. Going to have a local listening party for folks to come out and hear it, walk away with the project in hand, and get a sneak preview of the “1994″ video.

weworemasks: Lastly, and most importantly – what do you hope to achieve with RM2?

hasHBrown: RM2 is like any new project, it’s meant to re-establish what I had going before and try to reach as many new ears as possible. I’ve had a quietly busy 2012 if that makes any sense, and my last project ‘Break Something’ came out late 2011 so I just feel it’s time to give the people some new hasHBrown.

Rap Mayor 2 will be out in October.
