While I had plans to write and put this review out last week, I got lazy and got really tied up with the Drake album. I know that upsets a lot of you, but you’ll have to deal. Gambino is signed and now has an album out, and it’s good to be a fan and be in the position to support an artist who gave you two great releases in EP and Culdesac for free.

Yeah, I know. I said this would be the third review last week, but I just didn’t get around to it. Been a huge J. Cole fan, so it’s always nice to see artists you’ve been into for years finally put together and release their debut LP. Not to mention, sell 217,000 copies of it.

Today was a good day to post the album review, because today’s also the day we’re catching blink-182′s Houston stop of the Honda Civic Tour. And sure, we spent weekends of our time in much more hip locations such as ACL, but we’re human, and we still grew up on these guys, right? In any case, this is one of the longest tenured bands, and I’m glad they’re still making music. I do wish that they’d buckle down and get some adult haircuts though.

So, after a long wait for fans and Lupe Fiascos alike, we finally have LASERS. There’s a lot of background to this release, some of which was touched on in the review. But for the most part, I’m happy for Lupe for a number of reasons, regardless of how good or bad this album would’ve been. There were a lot of bullshit moves on Atlantic Record’s part, and I really hope he either gets dropped (I’m sure he wants that) and gets to do whatever he wants from here on out, or Atlantic allows him to do whatever he wants with Food & Liquor II.

forgive me, this is my first review for a comedy album. after receiving an advance (that’s no longer an advance), i finally managed to muster up the ability to try to knock this review out. louis ck’s one of my favorite comedians, and he should be one of yours too. go watch all his youtube clips, netflix streams and his fx series, but not before you read my review first.

what to do after a seven year split and you’ve aged as ungracefully as your band name? the get up kids are back with there are rules (out january 25th) and the ace up these guys’ sleeves is how much they’ve matured without ever really growing up.

well – back to work, right? what’s most surprising is that a 5 song EP from glassjaw managed to have a bigger word count than most reviews i’ve written, which average anywhere from 400 to 500. even more notable, this is my first review for an EP – ever. even in college. it’s all good, though. here’s to the first of many reviews in ’11.
glassjaw’s back, and that’s pretty much the best thing ever.

i’m not completely sure yet, but i’m positive this will be my last album review of this year. and even with that being said, i cranked this one out in about 40 minutes. i was really hoping tip delivered with this release, even though the man is a giant eff-up in the eyes of the law and his fans.

through careful deliberation (all of 12 minutes), i’ve decided that the album reviews will no longer be graded using the A-F scale. over time, i’ve realized more and more that this system is a bit flawed, especially for someone who’s as particular as me. i think all of this came around full circle during CUDIGATE2k10, where i gave the record an F. granted, my actual score was in the 4.0-4.75 range, but technically a 45/100 is an F.
i started out mocking the AV club scale, which actually works well…for tv shows and movies. so alas, from here on out, i and the rest of the staff (not to be named, cause they don’t even do reviews) will be grading album reviews using the 0.0.-10.0 scale. i thought about continuing on my path to becoming a troll and using a roman-numeral scale like this illustration, but i decided against it.
anyway, i’ll be updating the 10 most recent reviews to clarify a bit more, so check those out if you’re bored. until the kanye review, i bid you adieu.
