on boxing legend muhammed ali’s 71st birthday, ESPN did everyone a solid and released an amended 30 for 30 episode. still packed with the quality content you’ve come to expect from ESPN films, even if it is a 13 minute short.

This weekend’s Divisional Round proved again why this strangely happens to be the best weekend in football (save for the end of our beloved Houston Texans season). The Conference Championships are set and will take place Sunday, as we move closer to the Super Bowl. Huge move for the NBA and Nike – and we saw Alabama repeat as National Champions for the second year in a row.

Happy New Year, readers! Hopefully we continue to bring you the same great sports news we did for much of 2012 in a better way in 2013. This week saw a bunch of Bowl Games burn off the schedule, and the NFL playoff race is just getting started as we head towards the divisional round. Hockey fans can sleep at night too – lockout is over!

I usually do a list every year with the greatest moments in sports. (Check out last year’s.) I wanted to do a different spin on things this year. There were some great stories, and there were some disturbing ones – instead of focusing on things we already know, I wanted to bring to you some videos, memes, gifs and articles of relevance and humor that I found and hoarded over the course of the year.
Think of it as kind of a spinoff of Grizzly’s Top Memes of 2012 List.

Here’s this week’s edition of the sports recap. We don’t have a fantasy section, but we do have a full blown preview of this year’s NBA on Christmas matchups. Also on the docket is the NFL playoff picture, which is a little clearer after Week 16′s games.

The world we live in is extremely cold and crazy sometimes. We send our heartfelt thoughts, vibes and condolences to those affected by the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. It’s a tragedy and should be treated as such. It was good to see every sporting event rally around these victims, as well as tribute and remember the young lives lost in Connecticut. It goes to show how powerful something like this is and can be.
In the sports world, we had the ol’ “Statement Sunday” in the NFL, with 6 games that featured winning records across the board. Short form: Statements were made. If you’re alive in Fantasy, that means you’re either playing for 3rd place pot (me) or in the Championship (not me).

We have a new Heisman Trophy winner and another big week in the NFL, with plenty of drama for everyone and their mamas. Other than that, a handful of college football coaching moves, Marquez and Pacquiao fought for a fourth time, and the NBA is on TV. And our fantasy round-up is missing, but only for now. It’s about that time (exams, finals, suicide watch, etc) in grad school, so thevhb will update this as soon as possible!

All of the NCAA’s bowl games have been announced, as we move towards this weekend’s Heisman Trophy presentation. Aside from that, we had one of the most dramatic weeks in the NFL, with plenty of headlines. By now, you’re either talking an intense amount of shit in your fantasy league after making the playoffs, having your team completely self-destruct before the playoffs or you’re the Sacko of your league (that’s last place for you non-viewers of The League) – and you’ll need some pointers from our Fantasy recap.

Hope all of you guys enjoyed your Thanksgiving, whether you spent your holidays with your friends, family or ignoring the former for football. This week saw the wrap-up of the NCAA Football season (and a dramatic, rivalry-filled one at that) and a slew of great football games on Thanksgiving. We pause for a moment of silence for Hostess. It’s been real. R.I.P. Twinkies. Well, so much for that. Twinkies may have been resurrected. This week was fairly eventful. A huge move for the NCAA conferences and the Miami Marlins, respectively. Huge week of upsets in college football, resulting in a new #1. i realize the implications of posting this video. i don’t really give any feels about the samsung collection, but lebron james hit the court last night and received his ring, so that’s pretty awesome, and so is this commercial. watch him throw in slick name drops from coach dru and magic johnson as this nostalgic piece hits your airwaves. oh and did you guys see the rings they got? mad fancy. 219 diamonds.
