watch: vampire weekend – ya hey + everlasting arms [live on fallon]

more bands need to follow vampire weekend suit. when on a promotional run for your brand new album (modern vampires of the city is in stores today), don’t hit 4 late night shows and play the same 1 or 2 songs. after performing “diane young” and “unbelievers” on SNL this past weekend, VW knocks two more tracks into the mainstream.

“everlasting arms” below the jump.

watch: Too Old To Be New, Too New To Be Classic [dfa records doc]

in an all-too-perfect world, marc maron would be narrating every rock and roll documentary from now till annihilation. the world isn’t perfect so for now, we can settle for the cat rancher’s familiar voice laying out the existence of the new york label DFA records with interviews from everyone you’d expect like james murphy (from a boat, no less). watch too old to be new, to young to be classic above.

watch: the breeders – cannonball + drivin’ on 9

my favorite note of detail in this breeders performance of two last splash on fallon from last night is the way the familiar bassline of “cannonball” rattles the snares of the drumkit before the song ever kicks off. fucking’ sexy. watch “cannonball” up above and the bands’ cover of the ed’s redeeming qualities’ “drivin’ on 9″ below

watch: j. cole’s born sinner: episode 1 (web series)

this is a very vulnerable and personal look in to jermaine’s life. this has nothing to do with new music or anything of the sort – merely a peek into cole’s life. it features a narrative from kay cole, j. cole’s mother, and her story of how jermaine got her to be able to retire from her job at the post office.

from the web description:

“Part 1 of J. Cole’s Bornsinner.com series; a conceptual digital platform created by the Dreamville collective. The first installment documents the day J.Cole retired his mother Kay Cole from her job at the United States Postal Service.

The site will feature unique, personally curated content each week leading up to the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album Born Sinner on June 25th.”

watch: johnny marr – the messenger + how soon is now? [live on fallon]

last night was johnny marr day on fallon in which the stunt-cast guitar virtuoso played the title track from his recent solo debut the messenger and an old smiths’ rarity that probably only he and the other three members of the smiths have heard called “how soon is now?.” watch that sweet-ass gem up above and “the messenger” after the jump.
