2pac – road to glory [unreleased] (2011)

another song from the ‘pac archives that’s been liberated in CDQ fashion. i have absolutely no problem with any of this. and while ‘road to glory,’ otherwise known as a street tribute to mike tyson, has been around the internets in a very low bitrate, we now have the cdq to blast.

2pac – watch ya back & NY87 [unreleased] (2011)

so today, we get a couple of unreleased tupac cuts. and they’re equally vicious. on “watch ya back,” pac has no hesitation in throwing lyrical jabs at the likes of nas, dr. dre, B.I.G., de la soul (wtf). “ny87″ has an intro from dj quick, features from the dogg pound and a real dirty ass west coast beat.

attn readers: minor changes to the review system (2010)

through careful deliberation (all of 12 minutes), i’ve decided that the album reviews will no longer be graded using the A-F scale. over time, i’ve realized more and more that this system is a bit flawed, especially for someone who’s as particular as me. i think all of this came around full circle during CUDIGATE2k10, where i gave the record an F. granted, my actual score was in the 4.0-4.75 range, but technically a 45/100 is an F.

i started out mocking the AV club scale, which actually works well…for tv shows and movies. so alas, from here on out, i and the rest of the staff (not to be named, cause they don’t even do reviews) will be grading album reviews using the 0.0.-10.0 scale. i thought about continuing on my path to becoming a troll and using a roman-numeral scale like this illustration, but i decided against it.

anyway, i’ll be updating the 10 most recent reviews to clarify a bit more, so check those out if you’re bored. until the kanye review, i bid you adieu.

2pac – ride for me [f. fatal and kurupt] (2010)

definitely cool having three pac-related posts in a week, so let’s give it up for…me. pac’s had his fair share of posthumous material. i’m sure his vaults have enough b-sides laying around to put out several more double-discs if need be. in the meantime, check out this gem featuring some of the west coast’s finest.

throwback thursday: 2pac – dear mama (1995)

we’ve done a few throwback video posts in the past, so we’re thinking of making it official. on thursday, any number of the bears will post a throwback video of their choosing, with a little background on why they chose the video, etc. for mine, i’m choosing 2pac’s “dear mama.” since the airing of this week’s 30 for 30 focused on the night tupac was shot (14 years ago as of tuesday), i figured it’s best to choose a 2pac clip. i went with the famed track from 95′s me against the world.

i REALLY wanted to choose his collaboration with bone thugs, but alas, no music video. the selection of ‘dear mama’ comes with a purpose as well. my grandma’s been visiting us from the homeland for the past year and is leaving tomorrow, so i’m kinda feeling the burn of that. addtionally, everyone should love their mom. c’mon, now. till next week!

video: espn’s 30 for 30: one night in vegas (2010)

i’m sure by now most of you have caught an episode (or 20) of the acclaimed espn documentary series 30 for 30. just in case you haven’t, take your ass to your favorite torrent house and grab the episodes, which you can read about here. granted, there are some skippers, but last night, they aired the most relevant episode to date as far as music blogs are concerned. so alas, here we are.

one night in vegas finds us on september 7, 1996, the fateful evening of tupac’s untimely death, which was also the night of the tyson-seldon fight. i missed this on TV last night, but that’s never a problem when the internet’s involved. a must watch.
