stream: the menzingers – sculptors & vandals [acoustic] (2012)

13 02 2012

i’ve never posted about epitaph’s latest surprise, but the menzingers new album, on the impossible past, has found its way into my life. this rockin’ good time band is for fans of gaslight anthem and bouncing souls (do we have a type? i’d say so) and will definitely steal your hard, punx-upped heart with this acoustic rendition of “sculptors & vandals.”

video: anthony green – blood song [acoustic] (2012)

10 01 2012

anthony green is getting ready to release a solo album next week, under the album title beautiful things. among them is this song, as well as a slew of bonus songs that have pretty much piqued my anticipation for the release:

Soul for My Soul – Featuring Colin Frangicetto of Psychic Babble
Can’t Be Satisfied – Featuring Ida Maria
Only Love – Featuring Nate Ruess of fun.
Right Outside – Featuring Chino Moreno of Deftones

preorder the album here, before it drops on the 17th.

video: alabama shakes – boys and girls [live acoustic at wnrn] (2012)

4 01 2012

in stark contrast to the wallop packing that the alabama shakes serve up on a daily basis, the soul band tried a little tenderness when they stopped by virginia’s wnrn studios and performed a bittersweet version of their song “boys and girls,” presumably off their upcoming debut lp. check it out above.

video: happy christmas from kevin devine (2011)

21 12 2011

it’s ya boy, kevin devine, chiming in to wish you and yours a “happy” christmas. in the video above, he has a few words of his own about christmas, including an acoustic performance of “splitting up christmas.”

video: jack freeman – slow dance [acoustic] (2011)

14 12 2011

jack freeman’s on a roll here. not only was lynnie’s world a great LP, but this performance of “slow dance” is the best yet. for the video, he gets together a minimalist video production and throws singer lee-lonn into the mix for some soulful good times.

video: portugal. the man – everything you see [acoustic] (2011)

26 11 2011

get your acoustic thanksgiving on with portugal. the man, as the band plays a stripped down version of “everything you see” from this year’s in the mountain in the cloud.

video: fun. – carry on [acoustic; new song] (2011)

19 11 2011

holler at BWC for the heads up on this one. the fun. crew took to an exclusive hour-long dealio with consequence of sound today, and due to the lack of them not having the stream up continuously, this rip shall do. i won’t mind if fun keep dropping little ditties constantly til feb. 21st.

video: thrice – baeble acoustic sessions (2011)

9 11 2011

there aren’t many better things thrice does than turn their electric songs acoustic. and for fans of major/minor, baeblemusic put together a session of a handful of m/m songs spliced with interviews and all that good stuff. head over to baeble to watch the whole thing.

8 11 2011

the quin sisters are releasing their live and acoustic cd/dvd combo in a week, and rolling stone’s got dibs on the audio portion. after having seen these gals a few years back, my interest in watching this is definitely piqued.

video: fun. – we are young [acoustic; f. janelle monae] (2011)

25 10 2011

big sean isn’t the greatest singer, but he does his best kanye on choice FM’s radio show, where he performs an acoustic version of one of finally famous’ best tracks.

video: bayside – AP backstage sessions (2011)

21 10 2011

video: fun. – it gets better [new song; acoustic] (2011)

3 10 2011

the good news is that the new fun. album is complete. the bad news is that they don’t know when it’s coming out. from prior statements, i still wouldn’t count on it coming out this year. anyway, new song performed acoustic and it sounds just fantastic.

against me! – i was a teenage anarchist + because of the shame [acoustic] (2011)

27 08 2011

after having previously not been a fan of AM! before white crosses, i’m glad to say i’m a bit converted. in this clip/interview with exclaim! magazine, the q+a sessions are intertwined with acoustic performances of the mentioned songs. a questionable format, but whatever. “because of the shame” below the jump.

video: new found glory – radiosurgery [acoustic] (2011)

26 08 2011

i don’t care for new pop-punk these days. and while NFG’s not without a fight was underwhelming at best, it still had its share of great summer jams. “radiosurgery” is pretty terrible overall, but i’m glad to see these guys dabbling in acoustic music and making that song sound a tad better.

am i the only one who wants a follow-up in the vein of coming home? thought so.

stream: thrice – anthology [acoustic] (2011)

12 08 2011

yeah, buddy. had footage of this song being performed live posted the other day, but this is on that studio ish – an official b-side of the record after preordering it.

cannot wait for major/minor.

video: lykke li – jerome [acoustic] (2011)

1 08 2011

for this dimly lit clip, lykke li, with a little help from the wildbirds & peacedrums, performs a haunting version of wounded rhymes track “jerome.” just three lovely ladies, with lovely voices, all fighting for the title of ‘most intense eyebrows.’ enjoy.

video: taking back sunday – nervous energies sessions (2011)

25 07 2011

i don’t actually know who or what nervous energies is, but they managed to capture some great footage of adam and john of tbs performing acoustic. up top is “faith”, and after the jump you can watch em do “sad savior”. apparently there’s a third video that will drop wednesday of a tom petty cover, so get stoked for that.

video: arcade fire – sprawl II + we used to wait [live on wbez] (2011)

16 06 2011

swinging by chicago public radio station wbez (you just said that in your best ira glass voice didn’t you?!), the arcade fire performed (relatively) bare bones arrangements of the suburbs standouts “sprawl II (mountains beyond mountains)” and “we used to wait” that are as moving and affecting as their grandiose counterparts.

watch “we used to wait” after the jump.
