just this past october, i had seen the traveling band of horses give 110% into a 2 hour plus show at houston’s house of blues. how they do it night after night for an entire, nation-wide tour is astonishing. well, guess what? they’re doing it again. hit the jump to catch all the mirage rock band’s tour dates, which include an appearance at coachella.
later with jools holland’s lineup was stacked the other night with band of horses, foals and ellie goulding all brining their latest material to the round. watch clips of all the performances after the jump.
It had been a lengthy six years since Seattle’s Band of Horses had been in town. Then the Railroad Revival Tour was announced and BOH’s destiny was locked with that of Willie Nelson’s with a performance in the historical Old Town Spring just north of Houston.
And just like that, plans for the trek were derailed (ha!), ol’ Willie’s health speculated as the cause, and BOH shouldered the weight and announced their own replacement tour to buck up the spirits of those who, in the wake of the band’s commercial success with the Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms, cozied up to the rootsy Americana of the band and the warmth of Ben Bridwell’s canyon-echo vocals.
today marked the release of band of horses’ fourth full-length album mirage rock, a return to the rootsy, road trippin’ rock of their first two albums (stream it here). the band recently taped a 45-minute live on letterman webcast that you can watch up above. surprise surprise, ben bridwell wore a cap.
in the vein of 70s and 80s animal documentary, seattle’s band of horses release a new music video for “knock knock.” watch the highly entertaining clip via NPR, before the band releases their fourth studio album, mirage rock, on september 18th.
yes, the railroad revival tour, the one where bands travel the country woody guthrie-style, is back. this time the lineup includes willie nelson & family, band of horses, jamey johnson, and john reilly & friends. check out all the tour dates for this year’s venture here.
taken from band of horses’ upcoming album numbero four, mirage rock, “knock knock” is a handclappy jaunt with a matching deliverance-friendly video to boot. check it out above and the tracklist for the september 18th-due lp after the jump.
after the debacle that was the kings of leon tour, of which band of horses were the direct support, the band have dusted themselves off and made a triumphant appearance on conan, performing the whistly title track off their latest album, infinite arms.
so at ACL, band of horses decided to return the favor of cee-lo’s and cover his song, “georgia” last night at ACL. sad thing is, they haven’t posted the song to stream or anything (no videos yet either!), but expect you to drop a buck on it. not too bad, if you ask me, but i still have my scruples. i refuse to pay for an mp3, ever.
the two are releasing a split with each other’s covers, so that can also be preordered at this link. best believe if i catch an mp3 of this, it’s going up. cause i’m the ruthless petty criminal of the internet you’ve always known me to be.
who doesn’t love swedish indie bands? the shout out louds (when was the last time you listened to howl howl gaff gaff?) have taken it upon themselves to cover band of horses’ sparkling ode to haunting loneliness and translate it to swedish. speaking of lonely someone get the shout out louds some friends for the video here. i’m sad for them.
band of horses’ new album is out today. more importantly, somebody log this as time number 939485 that a relevant band has covered a replacements song, a band that anyone who ever liked american rock music should know about. here, the band (of horses) perform an acoustic take on the ‘mats’ 1987 pleased to meet me track “can’t hardly wait”. i’m doing everyone a favor by linking the original song below. get with your under-appreciated minnesota acts now. quack-attack is back, jack!
