show recap: band of horses (october 24, 2012)

It had been a lengthy six years since Seattle’s Band of Horses had been in town. Then the Railroad Revival Tour was announced and BOH’s destiny was locked with that of Willie Nelson’s with a performance in the historical Old Town Spring just north of Houston.

And just like that, plans for the trek were derailed (ha!), ol’ Willie’s health speculated as the cause, and BOH shouldered the weight and announced their own replacement tour to buck up the spirits of those who, in the wake of the band’s commercial success with the Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms, cozied up to the rootsy Americana of the band and the warmth of Ben Bridwell’s canyon-echo vocals.

Hit the jump for the full recap.

stream: band of horses – mirage rock (2012)

band of horses have quietly been prepping the sept 18th release of their fourth studio album mirage rock, and now you can stream the album in its entirety at the soundcloud link below.

the album art gives me a sense that the titular “rock” is actually the one in the cover photo, not so much the art of “rock.”

buy: band of horses – georgia [cee-lo cover] (2010)

so at ACL, band of horses decided to return the favor of cee-lo’s and cover his song, “georgia” last night at ACL. sad thing is, they haven’t posted the song to stream or anything (no videos yet either!), but expect you to drop a buck on it. not too bad, if you ask me, but i still have my scruples. i refuse to pay for an mp3, ever.

the two are releasing a split with each other’s covers, so that can also be preordered at this link. best believe if i catch an mp3 of this, it’s going up. cause i’m the ruthless petty criminal of the internet you’ve always known me to be.

video: shout out louds – is there a ghost? (band of horses cover) (2010)

who doesn’t love swedish indie bands? the shout out louds (when was the last time you listened to howl howl gaff gaff?) have taken it upon themselves to cover band of horses’ sparkling ode to haunting loneliness and translate it to swedish. speaking of lonely someone get the shout out louds some friends for the video here. i’m sad for them.

video: band of horses – can’t hardly wait (replacements cover) (2010)

band of horses’ new album is out today. more importantly, somebody log this as time number 939485 that a relevant band has covered a replacements song, a band that anyone who ever liked american rock music should know about. here, the band (of horses) perform an acoustic take on the ‘mats’ 1987 pleased to meet me track “can’t hardly wait”. i’m doing everyone a favor by linking the original song below. get with your under-appreciated minnesota acts now. quack-attack is back, jack!
