free album: greg noire – half grey (2012)

no, greg noire is no new artist. he’s just under a new alias now. formerly greg giant, the name change doesn’t mean the quality of music is any different – half grey is a brand new, moody collection of 20 original beats and compositions from greg. oh, and the samples will definitely pique your respective interests.

be sure to follow the man on twitter. and if you’re into that sort of thing, stream it via soundcloud.

free ep: leonard dstroy – inner exit (2011)

until he had just hit us up, i totally forgot about this producer from kansas city. he dropped a great beat tape in higher vibrations in 2010, and now he’s back with inner exit, a six song EP that he’s releasing for free (the mediafire link is on his bandcamp).

of course, if you like it, feel free to buy it!

mixtape: 14kt – 14 killa tape (2011)

underground wiz producer from motown has been hard at work again, and this 14killatape is the result of such sessions. self-described as “that raw ish” and “slaps” and “face twisters,” it’s kind of hard not to be intrigued by this effort. for a detailed look and a track by track breakdown of the tape, head here.

mixtape: kil – through the wire (2011)

dear internet,

ARE YOU FUCKIN’ SERIOUS? A MIXTAPE CONSISTING OF HIP-HOP BEATS AND SAMPLES FROM THE WIRE, THE BEST SHOW TO EVER HIT THE TV? Y’ALL ARE SO CRAZY FOR THIS ONE.

love,
grizz

but seriously. this is just as dope as you’d expect it to me. thanks to the asshole kyle from NSB for passing this down to me, and huge thanks to kil (whoever you are, genius) for creating this gem.

mixtape: 88-keys – beats no more (2011)

this is from nowhere. 88-keys decided to do some dreary-day winter cleaning of some hard drives, and found some 7-year-old beats (that’s 2004 for you non-math majors) that he decided to delete/release/cease hoarding. these are pretty fuckin’ good, for “throwaways.”

read the entire explanation behind the beats at his blog.

free ep: luminary youth – paper constellations (2010)

those of you that have been with us long enough may remember our first spotlight feature with a young producer from florida that blew us away with the instrumentals he made under the name heart collapse. well, he recently reached out to us in regards to his new project luminary youth and the ep he’s currently offering at no cost to you. any fan of dilla, flying lotus, or just damn smooth production will have no problem getting into what’s going on here. it definitely comes bear approved.

free album: leonard dstroy – higher vibrations (2010)

have no clue who this cat is, as i’ve taken it upon myself to listen to…wait for it…a MESSAGE BOARD RECOMMENDATION. one of the not-so-nice dudes over at AP posted a link to this and i gotta give it up. these are some ridiculous beats and a great album overall. imagine dilla beats overlapped with huge stadium electronics and a ‘bloom bap’ tag attached to it (self-dubbed by the artist, naturally.)

anyway head over to his bandcamp and get this swt album.

mixtape: greggiant – pharmacy (2010)

i know very little about greggiant. my homie todd (c’mon.) passed me this tapes of getting the good word out. strictly off his recommendation, i listened to greg’s (who’s based out of dallas, texas FYI) first tape, pharmacy, and i must say i’m highly impressed. fans of 9th wonder and exile should love this tape. greg’s currently in dallas pursuing an MBA, so props to him for keeping his priorities in line while creating beats like this. like stated, his influences range from preemo to just blaze to dj khalil, with everything thrown in between.

be sure to follow greg on twitter and keep up with him at his photo tumblr. for now, grab the tape and throw on some headphones.

blu – Open(theInstrumentalLP) ForTheHeadsWhoNeedBeats (2009)

i’ve been listening to this quite a bit since it dropped last week, but spaced hard on sharing. blu (aka GODlee Barnes this time out) drops a 37 minute instrumental LP. as much as i’m anticipating new tracks from blu, i’m really loving his production style. you can definitely hear the homage he pays to the producers he’s worked with/have influenced him (exile, taraach, and mainframe). tracklist under the cut.
