beck – i just started hating people today [ft jack white] (2012)

as you can tell by the blue background, beck joined forces with homie jack white to release a single on third man. “i just started hating people today” is a down home country jaunt that in its final seconds turns a huge 180 and gets boot stompingly loud. check it out below.

childish gambino – silk pillow [f. beck] (2012)

you read that correctly. while i’m not a fan of beck’s, it’s very cool to see such a storied and respected musician hoppin’ on a track and RAPPING with donald glover for his upcoming mixtape. and the minimal production works in both of these guys’ favors. listen/dl below.

i would have loved to have been present during this video shoot just to see what the staging was like for each scene. anyway, this new visual treat from charlotte gainsbourg ft. beck is fresh off gainsbourg’s IRM, which was produced, mixed, and co-written by none other than mr. beck hanson. as a bonus, i’m including the title track to the album as a download. enjoy.

video: record club – little hands [skip spence cover] (2009)

[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.895723&w=425&h=350&fv=]

the always fearless beck and his record club have previously taken on the velvet underground, leonard cohen and now they bring to light, former jefferson airplane/moby grape frontman skip spence’s “little hands” from his one and only 1969 album oar.

the record club have had its slew of beck buddies, from actor giovani ribisi and nigel “6th man” godrich, to mgmt and devendra banhart, oddball hippies in their own rights. for this record club, beck enlists the help of, wait for it… wilco (the band), leslie feist and jamie lidell. impressive. most impressive. i hear he’s going to have the queen of england and muhammad ali on his next endeavour.

video: record club – master song [leonard cohen cover] (2009)

the genre bending of beck and co. can’t stop, won’t stop. this time they take leonard cohen’s “master song” from songs of leonard cohen and turn it into one funky jam with syhnthesized rapping, metallica samples, and god knows what else. what a funky sexy goodtime.

“it’s the motherfuckin’ master song!”
