so here’s the rub: we’ll get teased a song a day from the upcoming wrecking ball for 24 hours. so expect to hear the whole album over the next week or so. that said, bruce’s track 4, the slow waltz “jack of all trades,” is an american dream gone sour and very much in the vein of dylan’s “with god on our side.” check it out below courtesy of spin.

on the springsteen-centric episode of late night with jimmy fallon, jimmy fallon busted out his best harvest-era neil young impression (spot on), and bruce springsteen busted out his best born to run-era bruce impression (a little gravelly, almost dr. teeth-ish), and performed, duet style, the infamous willow smith head banger, “whip my hair.”

bruce would go on to play two songs accompanied by miami steve and the professor: the, for-patti smith written “because the night,” and darkness b-side “save my love” with the roots band, who were having a hell of a time rocking out with the boss. check those out after the jump.

stream: bruce springsteen – the promise (2010)

on november 16th, die-hard springsteen fans wil be able to splurge an entire paycheck on the six-disc set (that’s three cds and 3 dvds) on the reissue of bruce’s 1978 darkness on the edge of town titled the promise: the darkness on the edge of town story. the audio portion of the set includes a remastered version darkness and the promise, a two-disc set containing 21 previously unreleased outtakes from the darkness sessions.

npr is streaming the promise in its entirety.
