earlier this year, folks who went to catch donald glover’s performance as childish gambino at the house of blues (or anyone on the CAMP tour) saw this video while he performed his ode to the lower east side, so it’s nice to see it finally hit the internet. glover’s been quiet since ROYALTY, so who know’s what’s coming from him this year. for now, enjoy the clip.
gambino’s stage presence is never an issue. always backed up proper by his fantastic live band helps too, as he performs “outside” at lollapalooza. here’s the official clip from the webcast.
one of camp‘s best gets a sci-fi oriented, glover-less music video. some form of space travel, gun violence and a whole bunch of metaphors and symbolism flow the visuals, while hi5 collective takes care of the rest.

Donald Glover had to postpone the first three weeks of the Camp Gambino tour due to a broken foot, pushing the start date all the way to the Texas run, which included a stop at Houston’s House of Blues. Having not seen any proper reviews for the tour, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Was he going to possess the same energy and livelihood of his narcissistic, but fantastic IAMDONALD tour? (He did.) Would having an opener hinder his creativity? (It didn’t.) Would Camp go over well live? (It did.) Will his broken foot affect his performance? (It didn’t.)
Recap after the jump.
everyone’s favorite song from camp gets a highly censored music video for the vevo masses. i don’t mind censoring curse words and the like, but when you start censoring “artichoke” because it’s used in a euphemism type of way, you’re going overboard. camp’s out now, and there’s an uncomfortable scene in the video where you have to watch donglover make out.
so gambino, his excellent band and his superhero on coke eyes hit letterman to perform “heartbeat,” an easy favorite from this year’s camp.
in a neat turn of events, donald glover has announced a full US tour in support of camp. that’s not the cool part. he’s launched an entire mythical website (quite similar to something “troy” would do, huh?) about ‘camp gambino,’ and did everything in his power to make it feel like a legit summer camp website. the tour will take place in march/april and will hit most major US outlets, including the bears here in tejas. danny brown will be tagging along for the ride as well. dates after the jump.

While I had plans to write and put this review out last week, I got lazy and got really tied up with the Drake album. I know that upsets a lot of you, but you’ll have to deal. Gambino is signed and now has an album out, and it’s good to be a fan and be in the position to support an artist who gave you two great releases in EP and Culdesac for free.
Hit the jump for the review, and be sure to go grab the record when you hit a Target or something.
glover gets crazy eyed and hits the conan stage for his first TV performance of “heartbeat.” i gotta say, i felt pretty uncomfortable half the time. not because of his cocaine eyes, but mainly because of the lyrical content and the fact that he got away with saying “handjobs” on tv.
also hit this link for a baeble sessions clip, where he performs “bonfire,” “my shine” and “freaks and geeks,” a session that was shot prior to the release of camp.
more gambino material? don’t mind if i do. glover sits down with rolling stone, accompanied by ludwig and performs three stripped down jams, including two new ones. hit the link below to watch em.
childish gambino – rolling stone sessions
you know how this works. NPR is in possession of every suburban kid ever’s favorite rap album of 2011. no shots though, cause it’s definitely up there on mine. hate the way his fanbase has evolved, but i love the way it’s gotten much bigger. camp has a ton of crossover appeal and it wouldn’t be too farfetched to think he’ll “make it” with this release.
childish gambino – camp [full album stream]
while our sunbear is off in austin just coming off of seeing gambino perform last night, we lowly folks are treated to a premiere of a new song from camp, which drops in a little over a week. anticipation’s high, isn’t it? hot 97 premiere, but it’s pretty solid quality.
also, hit the jump for a rollingstone feature – “childish gambino vs. donald glover”
childish gambino – heartbeat [radio rip]
donald glover makes his TV debut (as a performer) to knock out a set of a heavily edited “bonfire” for the fallon masses. and even though his band is incredible, i wonder why he didn’t perform with the roots. frown face.
count on donald glover to do something original in his music video for “bonfire.” i’m not the most thrilled on this song as a single, especially since it’s following its counterpart “freaks and geeks,” but gambino makes it work for him in the “summer camp thriller.” camp is out november 15th.
another influx of gambino news. “all the shine” was available to the masses in the form of a live studio video, but here we have the okayplayer premiere of the studio version. this song is very, very good. a lot of layers, orchestration and other shit of that nature. also, you can catch the tracklisting below as well.
02. Fire Fly
04. All The Shine
05. Letter Home
09. Hold You Down
