music videos don’t get more basic than this: simian mobile disco turn to 8-bit graphics and RGB colors for their colecovision-friendly video for “cerulean” from their upcoming album unpatterns due out may 15th. the damn thing is so simple and hypnotizing, i’ve completely forgotten about my khajiit back on skyrim.

it’s baaack! and with a nifty new green color scheme courtesy of new sponsor starbucks. av club’s undercover series is in its second iteration, and already featuring newer, younger bands covering older past hits. today, newbie will wiesenfeld aka baths takes on an almost classic song – lcd soundsystem’s “all my friends.” while wiesenfeld may not channel james murphy’s wistful longing of settling into aging hipster-dom, he does turn in a very honest performance of a song that may one day be his very own aging anthem. check it out below.

geotic – mend (2011)

yeah that’s a retinal photo of an eyeball up there. if you guessed that, you’re smarter than me, who thought it was a xenomorph egg.

whose eye exactly? why, it’s will wiesenfeld’s aka the beat-making baths. wiesenfeld’s got a new minimal/ambient music project called geotic and he’s just released his full length lp available for free download over on his site. download mend below.

baths’ latest record cerulean has been getting frequent play around these parts. i guess it would be hard to classify some of these beats, especially if you’re completely ignorant and indifferent about the genre tagging scene, but it’s safe to say that fans of flying lotus will dig a great bulk of cerulean. here’s a music video for “lovely bloodflow” which takes on literal translation here. i’ll go ahead and spoil it: there’s a dying, bleeding samurai in the woods who acquires a new soul? yeah, i know.

maybe it’s me, but i’m getting tired of these quirky and obscure videos from every band ever. i think it might be time to head back to the lovely days of the performance video.
