pretty much most of the people i know hold “lost” in regards as their favorite song from frankie’s 2012 debut opus, channel orange. and with good
reason. its cadence is all too ready for the radio and men, women and children of all ages are primed to sing along. so he put a nice filter on that camera and put out the instagram equivalent of a music video that looks like my tumblr feed – and i got no beef with that.
right in time for the weekend, big boi lets rap radar premiere his remix to frank ocean and andre 3000′s channel orange collaboration, bringing outkast together on wax for the first time in a long time. i believe the last one was lookin’ for ya, correct? either way, enjoy!
with only one 11-song album to your name, divine fits have been working a few cover songs into their live shows. nothing could be further from the sound of the indie supergroup than frank ocean, but somehow the trio are able to turn the channel orange track “lost” into something a little more … spoony. watch the performance above.
i can’t decide how i feel about this whole thing. sure, frank ocean took one of my (if not, the) favorite songs from channel orange to choose and make a video for, which is great in and of itself. he said it himself: he trolled the music industry by choosing a 9 minute single. the visuals are excellent. NSFW in nature due to the strip club scenes and all that, but the desert scenes are shot very well also. there’s also a really enigmatic cameo from john mayer — but WTF happened to the mix of the song? it’s chopped up to high hell and leaves out all the best parts of the song. and that’s where my personal beef lies.
even though the rain/storm came through chicago and had lollapalooza’s festivities suspended for a few hours, that didn’t stop frank ocean from coming back and shining through with a festival-stealing performance (according to everyone else, of course). catch his performance of “bad religion” above.
well, clap for ‘em, huh? after a swirl of media coverage of the artist for the past few weeks, frank ocean’s first week on top of the retail world ends in a huge success. after getting beat out only by the zac brown band, 130k+ copies of frank ocean’s debut LP, channel orange were downloaded. impressive for something that was only on iTunes.
i mean, i’m assuming people wanna hear this for tyler’s verse, but this song would’ve been an A+ without him. the bonus track for channel orange will be available on the physical release of CO, as it’s tacked on to the end. listen to the cut via hypetrak/forward to the 3:50 mark.
oh and frank’s about to do over 100k in the first week – iTunes ONLY.
frank ocean – golden girl [f. tyler the creator]
what better way for frank to make his presence felt than to perform one of the most stripped down numbers from his just-released record? singles? nah.
channel orange is out now.
a week ahead of schedule. frankie’s about to perform on jimmy kimbles too.
edit: listen to the whole thing here.
frank ocean – channel ORANGE
fresh off of his hip-hop shake up/announcement, frank ocean takes to the web to release his newest single from channel orange. the record is dropping in just a little over a week, and the pharrell-produced single can be downloaded below.

05 Sweet Life
06 Not Just Money
07 Super Rich Kids (f. Earl Sweatshirt)

after the announcement of his new LP, frank ocean drops his first single/release for the record in “pyramids.” weird artwork not withstanding, the song features a “co-written by” credit from john mayer, as well as some of his guitar slingin’ skills. no vox.
with an obscure video clip on his vimeo page up with no explanation, def jam swoops in to say that it is indeed a promo for frank oceans pending debut LP: channel orange. and the even better news is that it’s coming sooner and not later, as it’s slated for a july 17th release date.
hit the jump for the tour dates he’s released as well.
