stream: the niceguys – magick (2012)

friends, the time has come. the niceguys have been locked away for the past year plus to bring you the new standard of how up and coming rap artists should be. what was once the james kelley EP – a release that would be dropped upon crowds at SXSW as a promotional device, has taken a turn into the group’s sophomore LP. following up 2010′s the show would prove to be a difficult task, but the houston crew is ready to unleash the LP on everyone come 9/11.

“magick” carries the niceguys’ houston influence on its sleeve. from the opening seconds, you get the OG ron c and candlestick friendly intro from yves himself, in all of his syrupy glory. laced by christolph’s production, “magick” will take you on a car ride at night, doin’ shit you’re not supposed to – like sorcery and other shit harry potter’s into and will now be afraid of. listen to the track below, follow along with the lyrics, and stay tuned for james kelley on 9/11.

thurogood wordsmith – all cried (2011)

my man thurogood’s been hard at work on his debut LP, brass knuckle sandwich, which he plans on releasing this year. the appetizer was exactly that, as christolph/todd (of niceguys fame) produces a lush arrangement for thuro’s gritty delivery and head-spinning hook. start hoppin’ on this train now, as brass knuckle sandwich should be quite the conversation topic in a few months.

thurogood wordsmith – a.m. [prod. by christolph] (2010)

thurogood wordsmith is an up and coming emcee from the catacombs of houston, tx. he’s currently working on his debut LP, brass knuckle sandwich, which is due out in early-mid 2011. in the meantime, he’s set up a bandcamp page for the appetizer EP. a small collection of 7 songs, of which “a.m.” is a premiere candidate for top billing. christolph (one of two producers) of the niceguys put his touches on this particular track, and it’s definitely up to the caliber of beats you may have come to expect from the man.

if you like what you hear, be sure to follow him on twitter and download his EP on his bandcamp page, where you can name your price.

weworemasks.com interview: a conversation with christolph [the niceguys] (2010)

in honor of the niceguys brand new album, the show, i’ve decided to put up even more related content. i recently had the idea of having an aim conversation with one of the producers, christolph, to talk about any and everything concerning the current state of affairs in the niceguys camp as they ready this release. if you missed it the first time around, i definitely said aim conversation.

the reason i conducted this interview over aim is simple: the album’s a testament to the golden era of hip-hop, and what better way to tribute that than with an aim conversation? we’re not all about that facebook lag, you know? hit the jump, read the interview, download the album. tell all your friends. this group’s destined for success.
