if you aren’t a vampire weekend fan (hi, panda) then i apologize for the plethora of posts that you will see in the coming weeks. with contra coming out next tuesday and the endless hype train taking course, there’s gonna be more and more shit as the nyc boys make their rounds around the networks and such.

great performance of the lead single on letterman, completely on point. but two complaints: ezra needs a smaller guitar and this performance needs moar confetti.

you either loved or hated vampire weekend’s eponymous debut album from 2008, so this should be a no-brainer either way. i personally loved it, so i’m looking forward to diving into contra with my glass of ironic wine and a completely sensible cardigan sweater. just kidding. i am a huge fan of “horchata” and “cousins,” so the rest of this should fly by with ease.

contra’s out in stores on 1/12. get excited.

well then, we heard vampire weekend’s laid back ode glistening ode to horchata, and then old fashioned vampire weekend, albeit slightly spastic on “cousins”. but did anyone expect the electronic flourishes rotsam batmanlij took from his discovery project to vampire weekend’s to go into that otherworldly animal collective route? safe bet says no. while this track won’t appear on contra, as it’s a b-side to “cousins” it’s pretty neat to hear the boys stretch their legs and try something wholly different.

no video for horchata, but if you’ve seen the artwork for “cousins,” then i’m sure you’re interested in seeing the vampire weekend crew make a damned mess of a (seemingly clean) new york alley, hop on some trolleys and recreate that album cover.

got a cease and desist for posting the “cousins” mp3 a few posts back, so i hope you grabbed that. and yeah, a cease and desist for one fucking mp3. XL recordings need to get with the times.

the nyc preps move swiftly with another leak off of contra, which is due out early next year. i know all of their songs are relatively short but this one seems a bit too frantic for even vampire weekend. i’m a fan, though. if you’ve never liked em, this won’t change your mind. and god damn, i’m loving that cover art.

i’m gonna shimmy along in my boat shoes now.
