everyone’s favorite drunk omaha crew has announced that they will be dropping a new album entitled i am gemini on february 21st, 2012. this will be their first group release since mama, i’m swollen, which dropped back in 2009, so let’s get excited folks. tracklisting below, and hit the jump for their upcoming 2012 tour dates, none of which include a stop in our beautiful state of texas.

show recap: alkaline trio + cursive (march 26, 2010)

the last time alkaline trio headlined a set in houston in october of 2008 had completely different circumstances. rise against canceled, so alkaline trio had to step up in typical “the show must go on!” fashion and play a short stint of headline sets. this time around, they’ve had minor major label success, a charting album in this addiction and fellow lushes cursive along for the ride for their own headlining tour. what’s come to be expected by any trio set these days is a fair share of cult classics and new songs, distributed evenly amongst an hour and a half set. having cursive on the tour was a huge bonus for myself, personally.

8 02 2010yesssss. alkaline trio is back, and just as good as ever. here they are with their first single off of their first record on epitaph. the title track gets the pretty standard performance video treatment, but i’m on board. i’ve enjoyed close to everything this band has ever done, and the new record is no different.

3 09 2009this is a good one for the rainy day we’re having here in texas. i’d like like to make note of the fact that i cleaned my car earlier today because it was bright and sunny. little did i know a giant thunderstorm the size of houston itself would hit my neighborhood.
in any sense, kasher plays some of that ugly organ godliness (driftwood) we have yet to hear since 2003. beautiful. after the jump, check out videos of “caveman” and “from the hips.”

kasher and company stopped by some store somewhere called CD central (i’m too lazy to look this up) and did a rousing cover of the cure’s classic, the lovecats. for now, this is just a decent quality recording of the show. hopefully tim gets a good enough response to where he wants to drop a studio venture on us. love it.

album review: cursive – mama, i’m swollen (march 10, 2009)

it’s been three years since happy hollow came out, and as much as i liked that album, there was something BIG missing from it, and in turn, i stopped listening to it altogether. in retrospect, it’s hard to actually sift through and pinpoint what it was, but it doesn’t matter, because now we have mama, i’m swollen.
despite still not having gretta in the group, cursive grew into their horn arrangements, and kasher’s songwriting is as incredible as it has ever been. for the past few days, i’ve been listening to this album before bed and have let kasher and company tuck me into my bed amidst a sea of happy, loving, bitter and hateful thoughts.
