show recap: bloc party [dallas, tx] (december 11, 2012)

Our third and final road trip concert in a month’s time was a special one. None of us three bears had seen Bloc Party prior to this show, so a trip to Dallas to retrieve our forgotten writer Jerome to see ‘em at the House of Blues was a must. The band’s currently on their full US tour routing in support of 2012′s Four, a grungy, but beautiful affair, and the band’s first since 2008′s Intimacy and their hiatus, which took place soon after.

We were pretty excited about this one, especially considering it’s the last big show of 2012. Why not go all out and make a trip to Dallas, only to return back to Houston at 3:30 a.m., right? YOLO, as they say.

[Note: It's been a while since we've seen a show as fans first, and due to a lack of press, none of us took photos. Apologies to the folks who had their photos ripped from Instagram. Hopefully the credit isn't too bad!]

Hit the jump for the review.

support: dei gratia & co. – an indiegogo campaign (2012)

video credit: joshua fortuna

You know that guy, “Panda” or whatever? He created this website so many of you have come to know and love, and so many of Me and Sunbear have come to update and maintain. Anyway, our beloved Jerome is about the unleash his dream – and it’s Dei Gratia & Co. Translated from Latin, it’s “by the grace of God,” and it’s the name of a concept store he wishes to one day open in the heart of Dallas, Texas.

There’s a lot that goes into this concept but to sum up, it’ll be a specialty mens haven, where you can get a haircut, craft cocktails and beers, tailoring, shoeshines and of course – retail goods. After plenty of research, hard work and late nights, he’s launched an indiegogo campaign. Much like the Kickstarter campaign, it’s a fundraiser based off of user donations that warrant different incentive packages.

It would be amazing if all of you could take a moment to check it out, and if not, throw a few bones his way to help kick off something special. We luv u, Jerbones! & Godspeed!

show recap: morrissey (november 17th, 2011)

At 28 years old, seeing Morrissey live has always been at the top of my “must see” list, but the timing just never worked out, so you can bet ‘excited’ was an understatement when Morrissey and his gang came through Dallas last week. Hit the cut for a recap of the nights’ event, that included opener Kristeen Young.

show recap: sharon jones & the dap-kings (september 23, 2010)

all photos from the 09/28 denver show, courtesy of Lori W.

driving through downtown dallas the palladium ballroom, i had mixed feelings about the night that lay ahead of me. on the one hand the three mimosas i had just consumed were settling in nicely and i was definitely excited about getting to see sharon jones & the dap-kings live, something i had always heard was a must-experience. on the other hand, i was going to a show by myself for the first time in as long as i can remember. little did i know i had my good friend jack daniels and a set of action-packed soul ahead of me. hit the cut for a recap of the night’s events.

drake – 9am in dallas freestyle (2010)

apparently he just finished today while he was leaving jerome’s city. he’s playing houston tonight, but i don’t have 50 bucks laying around to watch drake yell a bunch of shit. hate aside, this track is nice. loving the beat and hoping that he records/masters it for the album. it’d be a waste of some nice bars and a clean boi-1da beat.

show recap: mayer hawthorne (march 16th & 17th, 2010)

have you ever been minutes away from watching one of your favorite artists live, hoping that they would live up to your unrealistic expectations, while questioning whether they could or not? well, the week before south by southwest, i experienced the same sentiment, as i caught mayer hawthorne on his first trip to dallas. roshan and aj were also fortunate enough to experience the same live magic in houston, and the three of us were fortunate enough to experience it one more time at sxsw, but that’s a different story.

we caught the man himself on the road with openers nikki jean (may we just say – damn.) and dj houseshoes as the openers. mayer hawthorne and backing band the county have been trekking across the country winning over and soothing hearts and souls, while managing to shape a new generation of soul music fans.

hit the cut for the review, along with photos from the houston show.
