being that lazerbeak is easily the coolest member of doomtree, his new album lava bangers deserves your attention. the official store released a pretty sweet preorder, where you get that little goodie up there, among other things with what’s probably going to be a great record.

doomtree – the grand experiment (2011)

i get picky/choosy when it comes to this camp. their posse cuts are usually less than stellar, but this one is pretty cool. i’m liking the production, which according to my past tastes, should be the thing i hate the most here. their new record, no kings, drops november 22nd.

and does the cover remind anyone else of pennywise?!

free ep: sims – wildlife [prod. by lazerbeak] (2011)

doomtree’s not my thing, unless it’s in small doses. however, put that mastermind lazerbeak behind the boards, and i’m probably ‘on board’ with the release. here’s a slew of songs recorded in 09-10 that they decided to release for free.

festival recap: fun fun fun fest [day two] (2010)

the dust bowl known as austin’s fun fun fun fest continued with it’s final day and biggest achievement to date, the reunion of the illustrious punk band, the descendents. stepping up when an injury sidelined planned headliners devo, the legendary west coast punk band set out for austin for their first live show in nearly a decade, causing a stir amongst festival goers. this once in a lifetime act would be joining the likes of best coast, deerhunter, p.o.s., mastadon, suicideal tendencies, yelle and more for the final day of fun fun fun fest.

video: lazerbeak – dream team (2010)

another week, another visual. this time, it’s pretty unorthodox when it comes to being a music video. it really just feels like a bunch of stock footage on your nearest aquarium, except seen through the filter of eyes that have taken ludes and psychadelics.

it’s ok, the record is awesome.

album review: lazerbeak – legend recognize legend (2010)

i know, i know. it’s been a while since we’ve written an album review. however, a late night conversation between panda and myself lead us to this review (and possibly three others, if we follow through). lazerbeak is known as the producer behind hand over fist, the guy who co-produced never better, and pretty much the best producer that doomtree has on their lineup. i was fairly excited when i heard that he was doing a solo effort, but the results couldn’t have been predicted to be this great.

plain and simple, this is a fantastic album that any fan of any genre could appreciate. there’s incredible production on both the hip-hop and indie-rock fronts, and there’s all sorts of experimental goodness that lies within the confines of this 33 minute monster of an album. hit the jump for the review, which i happened to churn out in less time than the album’s run time.

video: lazerbeak – let it go + bound (2010)

lazerbeak’s album, legend recognize legend, hit stores/digital retailers today. first things first, it’s a left-field album as far as the label is concerned. really love that the artists involved on this label branched out for this release and paper tiger’s made like us. in any case, beak had plans to release videos of every song on the album (which come packaged on a DVD with the record, FYI), so here’s the follow-up to “lands end,” which dropped a few weeks ago. below the jump, you can also catch the video for “bound.”

lazerbeak – salt and sea (2010)

meant to throw this up last week, but i totally forgot. i’m not big on any of the doomtree MCs outside of P.O.S. and dessa, but their producers are a force to reckon with. paper tiger has released one of the best albums of the year thus far (see: made like us) and lazerbeak is dropping his debut LP, legend recognize legend, (a self-indulgent title for a debut solo album, for the record) on september 28th. apparently, there’s gonna be a fair share of instrumentals and a fair share of songs like this here “salt and sea,” which’ll feature the producer on vocals. exactly the type of vocals that i’d want on a song like this.

video: dessa – dixon’s girl (2010)

[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.915781&w=425&h=350&fv=m%3D101837435%26type%3Dvideo%26a%3D0]

doomtree’s own dessa releases the visual for “dixon’s girl”. i don’t think i could possibly love the production/instrumental for this more. love the vibe of the video too, and of course dessa does her thing. dessa’s new album, a badly broken code, is set to drop january 19th. get ready.
