watch: empire of the sun – alive

when isn’t this group over the top? after announcing their first album in five years, empire of the sun manages to bring everyone back on board for their new album, ice of the dune, with a drop of their new single in “alive.” now, we get the music video for the song, which is just as outlandish and colorful as you’d expect from them. costumes, digital orbs, big ass canyons, forests, deserts and of course, the eclectic presence of luke steele and nick littlemore.

ice of the dune is out 6/18.

show recap: austin city limits festival [day three] (september 18, 2011)

A familiar Texas friend reared his sunny head over Zilker Park on Austin City Limits’ final day. No it wasn’t Win Butler, thought that did also happen. A jilted sun reappeared after two overcast days with scattered showers and for the first time over the three-day weekend it finally felt like an outdoor Texas festival. Regardless of the heat, Sunday saw the most over/well dressed musicians, risking heat stroke to maintain their dapper image and leave an impression on ACL’s last day.

the golden filter (2009)

we’ve posted about the golden filter a few times before, but after sitting here for the past 45 minutes and listening to a bunch of remixes from this elusive hipster entity known as the golden filter, i’ve come to the conclusion that i’m in love. from the dark synth to the incredibly seductive vocals. very much so along the lines of glass candy, but much, much more refined and enjoyable.

anyway, if you haven’t gotten into em’ already, i was bored enough to gather up all the remixes i have from them and put them into a nice zip file. i’ve also included two of their own songs.
