news: letlive. begin writing follow up to fake history (2012)

first off – the video up top is just fucking ridiculous. jason butler takes a trash can, dumps it on his head and rolls around in it. second off, according to various websites, the band is going to be holed away writing their new record, and a recent facebook update leads us to believe the same. let’s hope it’s 1/2 as good as fake history.

show recap: enter shikari/letlive. (may 7, 2012)

After an e-mail blast about the Enter Shikari tour with letlive, I was naturally curious to attend. Having no prior knowledge of Enter Shikari beforehand proved to be both out of my comfort zone musically and a challenge to write about journalistically. Sure, I was a fan of letlive., having seen them (no joke) four times in the past year. But a tour with a UK post-hardcore outfit that relies greatly on electronics? Why not – the two have toured together in the past.

Hit the jump for the recap.

letlive. – two left feet [instrumental] (2012)

ll. puts up a grimey, dirty ass, bass heavy instrumental on their website and my body implodes. does this mean new music? a new ep? something?

EDIT: they’ve since changed the instrumental and it’s more lyrics from “muther,” so i’m gonna go ahead and shoot that theory down.

but according to their comments, a new video for “muther” is dropping tuesday.

while in europe, the band shot various footage of them running through the streets, trollin’ vendors and patrons of the road alike, and eventually found themselves on the energetic stage that they perform on. sounds pretty stupid, right? letlive. makes it work and reminded me to listen to fake history…again.

i can’t get enough of this band. in this prolific ass clip, jason butler kind of introduces the band’s mentality when it comes to performing for a bit, before rock sound takes you on stage to see these frantic boys lose their shit with performances of “le prologue” right into “sick, sick…” – caught these guys live about a month ago, and it was no different. fake history is in stores now.

these letlive dudes are winning me over one post at a time. not that i’m not completely on board, but the guys show some versatility here in an acoustic number. while it is a bit awkward at times, i can imagine it’s not easy transitioning a post-hardcore song with gang vocals into an acoustic number. there’s a bit of interview there too.

what’s the policy on including albums like in my 2011 list? sure, i slept on it and it was in the lower 40s on my year-end lists, but it’s getting re-released with three new tracks (one of them is called “lemon party” – uncomfortable AND hilarious) and some new artwork to boot. regardless, this album is the best post-hardcore album of the past five years; plain and simple. it has been getting constant spins around these parts for the prolific lyrical work about religion, society and bitches, ya dig?

head over to the rock sound article to read a track by track breakdown from the band, as well as streaming the whole thing in the above widget.

even if it’s just one band and one album, this band single handedly re-introduced me to post-hardcore. last year’s fake history got a few spins, but as of late, it’s been getting frequent airplay. the LA crew recently signed to epitaph records (congrats, yall) and will be re-releasing the record on april 12th. the preorders for the re-release are up, and as you can see, there’s new artwork, 3 bonus songs and some t-shirt packages for the hell of it. they also released this live-montage of one of the best cuts from the record.

i’m curious to see this band live. i can only hope a houston date is in their near future.
