video: fiona apple – anything we want + let me roll it [live on fallon] (2012)

when last fiona apple shared a stage with funnyman jimmy fallon, the songstress had a bit of a meltdown. but all that hullabaloo behind them, apple, with some help from the roots on the disjointed percussion of the song, performed the idler wheel… standout “anything we want” and absolutely decimated the song. and as a bonus, performed a cover of paul mccartney & wings’ “let me roll with it” in honor of the former-beatles’ 70th birthday. catch the bonus track above, and the interview and “anything” performance at the audioperv link below.

and if you’re in the reading mood, there is a super in-depth piece on apple on vulture. stunning stuff.

it’s one thing to hear tune-yards’ merrill garbus’ vocal virtuosity on her album w h o k i l l. it’s another thing to see her recreate those sounds live. and it is an entirely different monster to see her backed by the greatest band in late night, the roots for her performance on late night with jimmy fallon with an extra added verse by black thought. feel it out folks. embrace the oddball.

video: okkervil river – wake and be fine [live on fallon] (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.5311810&w=425&h=350&fv=]

nary a peep was been heard from the the band since they released the stand ins and the various line-up changes that followed. that was back in 2008. but all at once the much-missed okkervil river are very much back in our lives.

debuting their album title and artwork, as well as a grizzled beard, will sheff led his band though the wicked waltz “wake and be fine” with a little help from some neighbors up north, a.c. newman from the new pornographers and ?uestlove on drums (everyone’s a neighbor from the north when you’re band is from austin, tx). the new album is titled i am very far and is set to release may 10th.
