Austin, Texas’s Fun Fun Fun Fest has come quite a long way from its humble beginnings six years ago. From its first year at Waterloo Park with a bill comprised heavily of local acts like Black Angels, Spoon and Ghostland Observatory, the festival has ballooned into a nationally recognized music-fest capable of reuniting acts like The Descendents, booking stadium sized bands like Slayer, and drawing crowds that would rival its big-brother festival Austin City Limits. Now with a new seaside home at Auditorium Shores, the sixth annual Fun Fun Fun Fest has its sights set higher than ever, with the most impressive bill its seen in years.

with austin’s always lovely fun fun fun fest lineup revealed, everyone’s shittin’ their pants in anticipation. for the first time in its residency, it will:

a. be 3 days long, as opposed to 2
b. be hosted by the auditorium shores, as opposed to the dogshit waterloo park
c. have slayer playing

sunbear and i will probably be there, passed out in the grassy knoll from smuggling in vodka and roofies (for each other, obviously) in water bottles.

festival recap: fun fun fun fest [day two] (2010)

the dust bowl known as austin’s fun fun fun fest continued with it’s final day and biggest achievement to date, the reunion of the illustrious punk band, the descendents. stepping up when an injury sidelined planned headliners devo, the legendary west coast punk band set out for austin for their first live show in nearly a decade, causing a stir amongst festival goers. this once in a lifetime act would be joining the likes of best coast, deerhunter, p.o.s., mastadon, suicideal tendencies, yelle and more for the final day of fun fun fun fest.

festival recap: fun fun fun fest [day one] (2010)

Fun Fun Fun Fest once again descended upon Austin, Texas for its 2010 edition, corralling the best of crust-punk, pretentious indie, left field hip-hop, stoner-metal, and whatever else kind of music would draw the mases to the ten acre Waterloo Park for a three-day marathon of live-music, mosh-pitting, and binge drinking. this year, the festival featured it’s widest array of artists than any previous, from weird al to gwar, there was something for everyone. weworemasks’ sunbear was on hand to partake of said festivities, and the following is his recollection, as best he remembers it, of Austin’s 5th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest.

editor’s note: sorry about the extreme late pass here people, i could tell you that i’ve been busy with other things, but truthfully i was recovering from the two day ordeal that was the fest.

photo recap: fun fun fun fest [day two] (2009)

sunbear did some work on day two of the festival. the bands were much better for day two’s festivities, but the inclement weather really put a damper (pun intended) on the entire day. constant drizzles, rain and mud coupled with a nice pair of shoes and jeans ruined by aforementioned weather conditions all helped with that.

however, seeing GZA perform the majority of liquid swords, kid sister, health, crystal castles (not pictured – was not allowed), harlem and why? made for a successful sunday at the normally pleasant festival.

hit the jump for the goods.
