kanye west announces a g.o.o.d. music album (2011)

20 10 2011

mr. west reemerged yesterday to send a very boldfaced tweet out to the masses. a g.o.o.d. music album, which i’m sure will rival 2009′s we are young money release. and let’s face it, while the format of the latter album was on point, the artistry on YM just doesn’t match up. it’ll be interesting to see what comes out of studio sessions with common, john legend, pusha t, big sean, kid cudi, mos def, mr. hudson and cyhi.

oh and don’t expect this before september 2012.

video: g.o.o.d. music x SXSW takeover (2011)

13 07 2011

well, even though vevo were nice enough to put up these incredible quality clips of the mega-event from this past year’s sxsw, i gotta say i’m a little disappointed in the QUANTITY of the output. three kanye songs, a mos def song, a pusha t verse, a kid cudi a capella and a live clip of “h.a.m.” is all we get? i know they’re hoarding more, and i want to see it all, plz.

watch the rest of the videos here.

28 06 2011

yep, it’s official. with the recent success of big sean’s grassroots finally famous extravaganza, island def jam jumped the gun and made him the flagship artist in a record label merger/absorption. g.o.o.d. music is now an official label at the house of def jam. more info can be seen here.

album review: big sean – finally famous (2011)

24 06 2011

As some of you know, we’ve been fans of Sean for quite some time now. We posted the first mixtape way back when and now, three years later, his debut LP is dropping. When it came down to it, I felt nearly obligated and a little motivated to write a review (Also, I realized I haven’t done one since March. Whoops!) for this record.

Consider it jumping back on the writing wagon. Review after the jump, boi.

video: consequence explains the ‘my god’ drama (2011)

17 02 2011

so there’s definitely a wedge between g.o.o.d. music and cons. he opens this video with “when i used to roll with that crew.” that makes no sense, as ye and q-tip are producing cons tv. in any case, quence breaks down the sitch with the whole ‘pusha t bit my lyrics’ tirade he had on ‘my god.’ it’s whatever here. i’ll chalk it up to a ‘u mad?’

-grizzly

mixtape: consequence – movies on demand 2 (2011)

video: kanye west – def jam conference call [ustream] (2010)

5 11 2010

in case you missed yeezy’s “conference call” with def jam and company yesterday, ustream put the whole thing up. the video is filled with appearances from cyhi, big sean and pusha t’s voice, all bloating up the oncoming release of my beautiful dark twisted fantasy. you also get a sneak peek at all the packaging and the five different covers. can hardly contain my excitement.

album review: kid cudi – man on the moon II: the legend of mr. rager (2010)

4 11 2010

i was rooting for cudders. i really was. i’m sure many of you know that all three of us here at weworemasks were fans of cudi from the beginning, and all three of us liked the first installment of man on the moon. it’s also no surprise that a lot of his fanbase was unhappy with the release, but that’s neither here nor there. his second album was pushed back several times (originally had a summer release date) and even now, it feels like the album was rushed.

despite being a picky listener (i know, you couldn’t tell), i don’t like writing negative reviews. but for some reason, i had to make an exception for this one. if you don’t feel like readong 450 words, you can check out the short-form version of my review here. granted, i had nothing to do with this video, but i’ve adapted it as such. deal with it.

and the best part about this record is the album cover. hit the jump for the review.

mixtape: cyhi the prynce – royal flush (2010)

14 10 2010

so a couple of weeks after one of the most high-profile widespread intros to the blogosphere, prynce is here with a brand new timing. it couldn’t have been a more suitable timing, coming off the performance with the g.o.o.d. music fam on the cypher. either way, i’m sure he’s got a lot to prove with his first official release for the label.

video: big sean – ashleyoutrageous interview (2010)

4 08 2010

i’m pretty burned out on ol dude, but it’s worth posting this lazy ass interview for the fact that he mentions a g.o.o.d. music tour. i know it won’t even be 1/4 as legendary as what the three bears saw last march at sxsw, but hey, i’m not acting like i wouldn’t go either.

-grizzly

video: malice – interview with MTV [pusha t, book, etc] (2010)

22 07 2010

quick clip further adding points to the side that said pusha t is signing with G.O.O.D. malice acts coy (pause) and shares no further details about pusha t signing to G.O.O.D. music, while plugging his upcoming book in the process.

although, the whole GOOD music day has already taken a big hit with the delay of cudi’s album. it’s all good, it was my least anticipated from the bunch.

-grizzly

video: did pusha t sign to G.O.O.D. music? (2010)

15 07 2010

king push briefly tocuhes base on his upcoming mixtape, the fear of god, which drops the same day as the rest of the GOOD roster. when asked if he joined the label, he definitely name checks “GOOD” fairly frequently, leaving little doubt about signing to the label for his solo venture. i’ll just say that if he has indeed signed, he’s the second best rapper on the label, period.
