video: gatsbys american dream – reunion show [sxsw; dirty dog bar] (2011)

looks like the fine folks put up a webcam quality stream of gatsbys american dream’s first show in five years. me and sunbear were there first hand to catch the set, so i’m not too sour about this series of events. unfortunately, you can’t see our pretty faces anywhere. not because it’s grainy footage, either.

weworemasks.com interview: gatsbys american dream (2011)

This interview was easily one of the greatest things to happen to this blog. There’s always that one band who you loved unconditionally through all of their releases and shows, even if everyone else didn’t. As a collective, we’re all fans of Gatsbys American Dream and had all had our own memories of the band long before we started weworemasks and even longer before we became friends. After seeing two reunion shows at this year’s SXSW festival, we made sure to get our contacts in order to make this interview happen.

In the 20 minute interview we had on the phone, singer Nic Newsham and I discussed the reunion shows, among other things, which include their future musical endeavors with GAD, as well as who’s releasing the album and of course, Nic’s perspective on the music industry. Hit the jump and read the interview. Follow em on twitter and lets get excited about rock music again.

Edit: I just realized, I met Panda and Sunbear for the first time at two different GAD shows. Panda was at an As Cities Burn/Gym Class/GAD tour, and Sunbear was at the Starting Line/GAD tour. Insanity. Nostalgia doesn’t get any cooler than that, folks.

show recap: SXSW (2011)

This time of the year is always pretty hectic. Between not paying for badges and getting into half of the shows we wanted to, getting drunk and finding free shit, SXSW can be a pretty pressing time. Luckily, we don’t complain that much. We threw up a mixtape prior to the event, but in any case, this recap will be quick and to the point. You’ll find each day broken down into who and what we saw, accompanied by blurbs written by Sunbear and I — all will be marked for your convenience.

You’ll also find some photos we took, many from Sunbear’s Instagram binge and some from my shitty point and shoot. Enjoy!

video: gatsbys american dream – theatre [reunion edition] (2010)

it feels so good to see this. from the description:

After Places & Number’s set finished, (Bobby from Gatsby’s project; his first time on stage with a full band, which was made up of all the Gatsby’s members minus Nic) they returned on stage with Nic Newsham and played “Theatre.” It was their first time playing live together in years, since their unofficial hiatus.

i am the wind, singing a sad song.

reunited: gatsbys american dream (2010)

amidst all these bands i couldn’t care less about reuniting (see: rufio, yellowcard) comes news of one of the best band’s longed for reunion: gatsbys american dream. made official by means of an official twitter account and countless twitpics, twitvids and other things of that nature on said account, we were able to get that news from seattle’s best. this band consistently put out some of the best records that ever came from that huuuuuuuge “scene” wave in 2000-2005. and i think i speak for all of the bears when i say, “thanks, and welcome back.” oh and visit their brand new myspace.

i’m really gonna need that tour to support 2005′s self-titled pronto.

i am a grizzly, and i’ll hurt you all.
