show recap: the gaslight anthem (april 26, 2013)

Anytime The Gaslight Anthem tours, it’s an event for us. They’ve maintained the status as one of our favorite bands – putting out some of our favorite records since 2007. A core group of our friends always find a way to set aside an entire night to buddy up, throw our arms around each other’s shoulders, enjoy libations and sing along to some hearty and soulful punk rock songs.

And Thursday night’s stop of the Handwritten Tour at the House of Blues was no different.

video: the gaslight anthem releases video for ‘national anthem,’ for hurricane sandy benefit (2012)

in tribute of the recent victims and the damaged properties left in hurricane sandy’s wake, the jersey boys in the gaslight anthem decided to make a video for the appropriate “national anthem,” from this year’s handwritten. sad stuff. visit to donate for sandy relief.

elisha cuthbert aka the girl next door aka alex in happy endings stars aka kim bauer on 24 in the new video for “here comes my man,” from the gaslight anthem’s handwritten. i’m not big on the video, really, but it’s all good because i’m still down with the t-g-a.

i’m not exactly sure what’s going on with the embed here, because the link SHOWS a vevo site, but it’s through some kind of obnoxious, UK proxy. that aside, one of the best songs, and title track from the gaslight anthem’s brand new album has a video to go along with it now. following up “45″ with this more melodic number was definitely a good idea from the band.

on july 24th, the gaslight anthem’s 4th and highly anticipated lp handwritten will be out on mercury records. the album was recorded in nashville by bendan o’brien (bruce springsteen) and features songs like “45″ and “biloxi parish” which the band have been road testing for some time now. hit the npr link below to stream it in its entirety.

video: the gaslight anthem – live on letterman concert series (2012)

after their late show performance of “45,” the boys of the gaslight anthem stuck around to play an hour-long set for the live on letterman concert series. check out the video up top to catch performances of “here comes your my man,” “the ’59 sound,” a cover of the who’s “baba o’reilly” and more.

not that this band’s a stranger to nostalgia or anything, but let gaslight take you down memory lane to the videos of 10 years ago that all culminate in a live performance. and hey, we were on the same boardwalk a month ago for bamboozle! i feel so connected!

handwritten is out july 24th, and will probably be fuckin’ awesome.

the gaslight anthem – you got lucky [tom petty cover] (2012)

this isn’t the first we’ve heard of the gaslight anthem covering tom petty. this one just happens to be more official than an off-the cuff live rendition. check out the b-side to the “45″ single, a rendition of the 1982, logan’s run car-featuring, “you got lucky,” up above.

2/3 of the weworemasks is headed off to new york city tomorrow, so posting will be scarce, if any. we all know how panda works around these parts. anyway, we got trolled, because gaslight rocked a show the night before we get there and will rock another show at bamboozle the day we don’t attend. go figure, right? so what better way to send you guys off with a full video stream of the show. setlist below the jump.
