i’m a huge fan of anything on TV, especially if i can download it and catch up to it on a typical unemployed friday morning/afternoon. after a few choice recommendations from peers, i grabbed season one (all 6 episodes) of this fantastic new comedy on hbo called eastbound & down.
eb&d follows kenny powers, a once-star MLB pitcher whose career has since flopped. i’m not one to make bold accusations, but his on field antics remind me of john rocker, except a lot less racist. it’s produced by will ferrell’s production company (gary sanchez productions) and co-written by ferrell and adam mckay. and with notable cameos by craig robinson and will ferrell and several other successful castings, there’s definitely a formula for success here.
anyway, powers, played by danny mcbride (pineapple express) deals with the frustrations of having to live a real life, as he has to buckle down with the simpletons and get a job in a good old suburban town. aside from the actual realism factor of the show (loss of love, career, motivation, etc), this show is the funniest shit i’ve seen in quite some time, simply put.
it only took me a total of 3 hours to watch, so there’s no complaints here. and for anyone who’s already a fan, let’s rejoice in the fact that eastbound & down has been confirmed and signed on for a second season.
