today was a good day. janelle monae and the local folks of cactus music were able to set up a neat little meet and greet/in-store performance for us houstonians. coupled with free st. arnolds brew, it brought a good 200 people out to the record store in the middle of the day, where ms. monae treated us to acoustic renditions of “tightrope,” “smile” and “cold war.” three songs definitely wasn’t enough for me, but she had a real set at verizon opening for erykah badu. so the whole ‘voice preservation’ thing was in full effect. janelle is as charming as she is talented, as you’ll see in this video. i didn’t have a great spot to get video, so i relied on random youtubers to take control of the situation.
