introducing – deer leap – here. home [free album] (2012)

finding this band was not of my own accord, unfortunately. between an absolutepunk thread that compared this to a more compact version of moving mountains’ foreword and someone pointing out that there’s a song titled “2. Not Penny’s Boat,” i was immediately sold on this. if there’s two things i love, it’s moving mountains and LOST references in song titles.

anyway, deer leap is a trio out of new hampshire and they’ve posted their full album up for grabs on bandcamp. i know it says $7, but they’ve included mediafire links all over their facebook and what not, so get to downloading! if you like what you hear, buy it! the group has also posted lyrics to the album as well.

introducing: the dividedby clothing (2012)

it is with both great honor and disdain that i present to you a couple of my internet friends/fellow trolls’ latest endeavor: the dividedby clothing. this project started between co-founder kyle pedersen and designer brock landrum as a way to get out tangible, honest products to sponsor musicians and artists with, while ultimately achieving the (canadian?) american dream: making money. kyle, formerly of nothing sounds better, is also working towards bringing artists to his own label of the same name. the latest addition was longtime AP.net staffer and weworemasks-enthusiast lueda alia to help lighten the load of promotion and creative thinking.

together, the three of them will bring you some sweet goodies in the vein of snapback hats, Ts, crewnecks, hoodies, and much much more. as of last week, their spring/summer collection is hot off the press and ready for public consumption. hop to and shout at these folks.

links of reference:

the dividedby homepage/webstore
the dividedby facebook
the dividedby twitter

they’re also on instagram and a bunch of other shit you’ll wanna be a part of. in the coming week, stay on the lookout, as weworemasks will be graced with some free shit to giveaway from TDB. if they don’t give it to us, we’ll trek up to canada and rob them anyhow.

cheers, y’all!

free album: pinegrove – meridian (2012)

i’ve been sitting on this album for a week now, after one of the fellas from the band got in touch with us. it’s been busy with show reviews, mixes, and show recaps and all that other junk – but here we are. pinegrove are a four-piece from brooklyn, new york who have put together a fine LP in meridian. a sunny, washed-out groovy record it is, with a truly organic rock sound. multiple vocals and harmonies will find fans of local natives and beach house on common grounds.

check it out, it’s free. my personal favorites are “the metronome” and “peeling off the bark.”

introducing: dustin harkins [d-hark] – mister o’ malley (2012)

dustin harkins is quite the fellow. coming across him on the absolutepunk boards, he frequented the hip-hop round up i do weekly and very slyly threw in comments here and there, only to eventually drop his own mixtape on me. coming from denton, tx (outside of dallas) his rap name is simple and to the point, and mister o malley is a mixtape that uses other beats to explore his potential and work ethic to become successful, while touching base on his personal issues – including dealing with aspergers his whole life. and while this is an early sample of what type of artist he is, mister o’malley shows a lot of potential.

free ep: seas & centuries – nets (2012)

another gem found deep within the loins of our inbox. seas & centuries is a group from reno, NV that has kind of a phantom planet vibe on the surface, but drives it in with a bit more rock. the guitars are quite good and the ambience of it all makes for a great listen. be sure to grab their other EP, until december, for the ‘name your price.’ and for the record, both dropped last year.

introducing: old soul (2012)

i know very little about this folk-rock ditty from maine, but i know that their self-titled debut is quite an enjoyable listen. for a ‘name your price’ situation, you can’t go wrong. if you’re a fan of something somewhere between bon iver and arcade fire with the drunk pacing of justin townes earle, you’ll probably love this.

video: leonard friend – serious music (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.15838070&w=425&h=350&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]

this groovy jam is an introduction to leonard friend, a singer/songwriter writing hybrid pop/r&b songs with a contemporary 80s tinge to it. “serious music” comes from lynyrd frynd, an EP which is dropping at the tail end of january. be sure to keep up with the latest haps at his facebook page and look forward more posts.

introducing: the lower class – flight of ideas (2011)

these guys recently contacted me and used our good friend fat tony’s name to get my attention – well played! the lower class is a trio from san marcos, texas – and i think they’re onto something. their beats are layered and chock full of funky basslines and synth, their vocals are somewhere between a young lupe fiasco and ATCQ’s group-style rhymes and their lyrics are witty and packed with clever references. they’ve recently released a mixtape/album called flight of ideas, which you can download at bandcamp.

like em on facebook, follow em on twitter.

who’s the hell? why, it’s matt skiba (alkaline trio) and atom willard (ex-angels and airwaves) linking up for a little teaser to introduce you to their new sideproject. not much else to know, but matt skiba’s sideproject work tends to be pretty great. anyone remember heavens?!

introducing: needle – oceans (2011)

this band got in touch with us via our inbox, and i’m liking what i hear. to compare them to another band is to mention beach house without any others. and we like beach house. needle is a lush pop group from the deserts of california, who plan on releasing their album saint timothy’s on january 10th. for now, download a new cut from the album and stay tuned for more posts.

follow them on twitter or facebook.

introducing: lewis – homme [free ep] (2011)

i’m excited to introduce this “new” hip-hop artist to you guys. he recently hit us up and i ended up listening to homme, his brand new, very free EP. turns out, this 18 year old emcee from south jersey. he’s been rapping since the age of 7 and has had recorded material that dates back to when he was merely 11. throughout the years, he’s managed to release 9 projects, most of which can be found on his bandcamp page. while i can’t vouch for the rest of his discography, i will definitely be grabbing penthouse in the apocalypse, if not for the name alone. while he doesn’t sing, the biographical nature of the rhymes reminds me of a grittier version of a j. cole or a drake, but don’t let either of those names fool you – he sounds like neither.

be sure to follow him on twitter and tumblr for the latest and greatest.

introducing: kids these days (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.5315551&w=425&h=350&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]

this comes recommended to me via a close personal friend who i don’t typically trust with music recommendations. that being said, this chicago crew has my attention. 7, sometimes 8 members. 2 singers, one rapper, some horns and a well rounded sense of genre (blues, hip-hop, r&b, pop, metal, just kidding about the metal) leaves these guys with a lot of potential and room to grow. hit the jump for a few more videos and keep a lookout by liking em on the facebook and 21st century things of that nature.

introducing: big jesus (2011)

my man daniel gleason (ex-winston audio, death on two wheels) has been playing keys when big jesus performs, and thought that he’d drop off this sludgy, grungy EP that just dropped a couple of months ago. big jesus is a rock band (in the truest sense) from atlanta that just put out a self-titled EP in march. if you like your rock and roll southern, slow, heavy and dirty, then these guys are ideal for you. and i mean, it’s a free EP after all.

introducing: skruncha-roo (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.12838067&w=425&h=350&fv=]

don’t let the name fool you – this a completely serious project that is the product of kyle vento – 1/2 of the production duo simple success, who we’ve introduced you to before. and if the barker/am leanings of that project didn’t grab you, then skruncha-roo’s soul-sample influences will surely grab you. this is a side project by all definitions, but vento maintains that you will continue to hear music from this project.

up top is an incredible visual for their first release, “deer and i,” which features everything mentioned in this post, with a lovely model as the icing on the cake.

i’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from this project. naturally, you can keep up with his antics at his new tumblr account.

stream: culprit – analogue (2011)

so i guess this is more of an “introducing” type of feature, but here goes. culprit is a four-piece band from los angeles who dropped their debut EP earlier this year in april. analogue is five songs full of huge pop-rock anthems that have plenty of ‘whoa’s’ and gang vocals to boot. it might by my summer haze speaking, but this is definitely right up that road trip alley.

anyway, head over to their facebook and stream the album, but not before you follow them on tumblr.
