episode 1 of the series dealt with mama jermaine detailing accounts of her being able to quit her job at the postal service. episode 2 follows fellow collaborator and close friend kendrick lamar in his own personal rise to fame.

this is a very vulnerable and personal look in to jermaine’s life. this has nothing to do with new music or anything of the sort – merely a peek into cole’s life. it features a narrative from kay cole, j. cole’s mother, and her story of how jermaine got her to be able to retire from her job at the post office.

with a june 25th release date for born sinner now looming over the j. cole camp, he’ll need to get the ball rollin’ in the promo parts of town. well, a video for “power trip” that holds a morbid plot twist can surely do that. now, it is a bit strange that he chose to go with this theme for a song that has an overall posi tone, but hey, i’m still listening to the hell out of this one.

hip-hop needs whatever j. cole is cookin’ up for his sophomore album. i’m not big on lyric videos, but this one’s done pretty well. the Miguel-assisted single is ready and primed for the radio, so it’s only a matter of time.

rikki martinez held a very informative interview with jermaine recently. in the discussion, they talk kobe/lebron, “power trip” and of course, let loose of a few details about his debut lp. while the release date is gone up in limbo now, we might be able to expect it in the 2nd quarter of 2013. there may or may not be collaborations with kendrick lamar and jay-z. oh and speaking of kendrick, cole hopes to have the collab album with him done this year.

a few years ago, miguel put j. cole on his first single “all i want is you” to help throw some star power his way. well now, with miguel coming off a huge grammy appearance, the tables have turned. j. cole is getting ready to prep his born sinner record and needs people to start turning his way again. not but 48 hours after a new “for the fans” EP in truly yours, his first single from born sinner is a good one – albeit a bit unexpected. dial back the bass and turn up the grooves.

while everyone snoozed off last night, j. cole was up working. he released an EP of b-sides and unreleased tracks that he felt were good enough to tide us over until born sinner comes out, and also had a note for his fanbase.
It’s time.
I appreciate you giving me the time I needed to grow, experiment, and find the direction for my 2nd album.. And I have.
Along the way I’ve recorded at least 4 albums worth of material, lots of it being unfinished demo versions waiting to be polished up, some of them are great songs and important stories that just won’t make the album (either they don’t fit Sonically, don’t fit Theme, or there’s just not enough space) .Tonight, I want to give you a few of these songs because you deserve them. It’s hard as fuck for me to keep all this music from you for so long, so I know it’s been hard for you to wait. Thank you for your patience. Vibe out to these songs in their raw form, no polish.. just a lot of my soul..
