Q: how do you ruin a perfectly good song?
A: let snoop dogg have two verses on it.

the always suave mr. legend stopped by leno to perform the wake up track, just didn’t get to bring the roots with him. it’s all good, cause legend is always the man.

this was one of my favorite songs from last year. unfortunately, the album it was on was definitely underwhelming. anyway, listen to mr. legend get all smooth on us over some dubby ass synths.

this is a good surprise. this cut leaked a few days ago with a quite large amount of dj drops and now we have the CDQ. i’d say lyrically and thematically, the date of this track is probably right after he started recording for MBDTF. the beat leaves something to be desired, and you may recognize the verse from the GOOD music cypher, but the execution here is real tight. and artwork not withstanding the g.o.o.d. friday tag.

originally common’s b-side from the finding forever days, but now a remix thanks to fashawn getting to work early on in 2011. i love this beat.

not sure if this is lasers material or not, but lupe hasn’t said anything about it. you know what that means. get this ASAP, cause he’s gonna be pissed come tomorrow.
p.s. i love this song.

despite revoking g.o.o.d. friday privileges earlier this week, kanye dropped off a new cut early this morning. i mean this shit is, fuckin’ ridiculous.
edit: got a new master + extended verse from leslie.

everything seems pretty convenient for john legend and the roots. arcade fire is fresh off the fumes of having a superb new album and that huge MSG concert on youtube this summer; john legend and the roots are busy making their promo runs EVERYWHERE and performing on youtube as well. the two seem to cross paths here, as the latter parties cover arcade fire’s 6 minute burner from 2004′s funeral. nothing but great stuff here, folks.

legend and questlove represent the wake up! project on 106 and park in a completely different setting. everyone’s lax and legend talks about passing off his demo to the roots, eventually allowing questlove to have a brand new coaster. more information on the album’s shared, which is always a good thing.

there’s been an overflow of JL+roots material as of late, and i haven’t even slightly began to tire of it. here we have the Q&A for the aol sessions, and below the jump, you can catch the behind the scenes, along with a performance. the record itself is phenomenal and should definitely be picked up from your local retailer.

fantastic performance by mr. legend & the roots crew, taking their message to oprah on monday. hopefully performances like this will help the power of these songs resonate with listeners worldwide. wake up! drops today, so do your part, grab a copy and spread the word about this incredibly powerful listen.

the lone original composition on the roots and legend’s wake up hits the web in the live studio fashion that we’ve gotted used to seeing as of late. i’m itching to hear the rest and and surprised at how well the whole thing’s been kept under wraps.

and we’re blessed with more visuals from john legend & the roots’ upcoming wake up!. you really can’t go wrong when you’ve got this caliber of musicians reworking a donny hathaway classic. not to mention the sartorial freshness in the video. get ready to wake up!, september 28th.

being that this is a whole 3 or 4 days old, i’ll take the late pass, but i’ll be damned if i’ve seen it on any blogs worth their weight in cred. UK dubstep/electronic act magnetic man team up with john legend for a total “lolwtf, this is incredible!” moment. the track comes off magnetic man’s upcoming self-titled album, which is set to drop october 4th.

well i’ll be GD’d. two new collab cuts in one day. i tried to resist this particular track, seeing as how it’s the only album cut that’s an original composition from either crew, but i really couldn’t do it.

i know this record is a covers collection, but it’s pretty terrifying how GOOD these covers are. not sure why they’re “featuring” black thought, but since he’s got a verse on here, i guess it makes sense.
