so to keep it brief, all three of the bears got to see mayer hawthorne & the county destroy all three of texas’ most tour capable cities. panda caught them in dallas (recap coming very soon), grizzly and sunbear caught the houston show and all three of us would catch him again in austin during sxsw. needless to say, it was a great 3-day stint filled with soul, dancing and a lot of booze. up top is a video of the county’s take on n.e.r.d’s “fly or die,” an obvious highlight of the night.

i could watch this man perform every day. after seeing mayer hawthorne & the county two consecutive nights in a row, that’s a safe bet. mayer takes his jig to the interface sessions, where he lays down pristine versions of ‘make her mine,’ (above) along with ‘just ain’t gonna work out,’ ‘easy lovin…’ and ‘i wish it would rain over at the site. we have a show recap + live footage coming soon, so sit tight cutie pies. we’re still drunk and lethargic after sxsw.

that last part excludes me, though, since i’m the only one doing any work around here.

oh yeah, i bet you all didn’t see this coming. truth be told, he’s one of the hottest thing to hit stones throw records since dilla (yes, i mean that) and was probably one of the easiest interviews the bears have ever landed. it was as simple as me talking to a publicist on aim and him giving us an interview within a couple of days. don’t steal my secrets, y’all.

it’s no secret that jerome unleashed this mayer hawthorne phenomena upon you all, myself included. it really didn’t take much for me to become a fan. aside from using his porn name as his stage pseudonym, there are many things that make mayer awesome. not to beat a dead horse, but he is one of the most truest forms of contemporary soul, and his vocals will melt your bones.

i recently got the chance to talk to him about his album, a strange arrangement, (yeah, pick that up.) touring and sunglasses in a phone interview a couple of days ago. you know the drill – hit the jump for the lovin.

if you still ain’t up on mayer, i just don’t know what to say to you. his album is top 10 ’09 easy. here’s a fresh take on mayer’s single by astronote. definitely kept the feel/soul of the original while putting a very fresh spin on it.

also, mayer/stones throw are dropping a 4-inch single for “love is all right”, which will contain two non-album tracks. hit the cut for the promo clip and if you’re interested, get at it.
