kevin devine + manchester orchestra – bad books (2010)

i’ve held off posting about this since it had been a working idea for some time. since then, the camps of kevin devine and manchester orchestra have joined forces to create somewhat of a supergroup in bad books, who will be releasing an album on october 19th. definitely looking forward to this, as i can’t imagine a bad output.

in any case, head over to their FB page to listen to their first single, “you wouldn’t have to ask.”

show recap: thrice + kevin devine (july 6, 2010)

it’s no surprise that i went to see thrice for a whopping 19th time last night. it’s not so much the fact that they’re “pretty much” my favorite band of all time, because that would be hard to narrow down to just one group. but for the longest time, they have been the most consistent and best band to invest time and effort into. i’ve loved part to all of their releases, most of which found their way into my top 20 in their respective release years and i can say with a straight face that they’ve never let me down live. this time, they brought around kevin devine and his god damn band, as well as bad veins and the dig.

hit the jump.

thrice – i want you (she’s so heavy) [the beatles cover] + summer tour dates (2010)

a few weeks ago, thrice had to unexpectedly drop off their co-headline tour with manchester orchestra due to a family emergency. according to the band, that grim situation worked out for the better, so things are looking up for the crew. in a few weeks, thrice will embark on their own headlining summer tour that’ll take em across the us with the likes of kevin devine, bad vein and the dig. i haven’t the slightest clue about the latter two, but kevin devine + thrice is a guaranteed good time. not to mention, this will be thrice’s first proper tour.

also, the band is running a contest here, where you can win a bunch of shit. but more importantly the first so and so entries get a free .mp3 of thrice covering the beatles’ “i want you (she’s so heavy).” eventually, the downloads will run out, but i’m here for you.

tour dates after the jump.

video: kevin devine – you wouldn’t have to ask [new song] (2010)

[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.925351&w=425&h=350&fv=]

definitely wasn’t expecting any new k-dev for a minute. as much as i loved brother’s blood (it’s my favorite release from him), i wouldn’t mind a collection of songs such as ‘you wouldn’t have to ask’ either. classic kevin.

video: kevin devine – the only one [manchester orchestra cover; live] (2010)

oh, yes. the first footage of the man o cover surfaces. the homie cj attended this show and either provided us with this, or he stole it from someone else. either way, be sure to head over to the old post to catch kevin devine and manchester orchestra cover jerkin’ each other.

kevin devine vs. manchester orchestra – i could be the only one (2009)

this is awesome. two bands/groups of friends covering each other’s songs. takes me back to 2004′s limbeck/motion city soundtrack split. don’t ask why that’s the only example i can come up with. anyway, kevin devine cover’s manchester’s “the only one” and man o does their take on kevin’s “i could be with anyone.”

there’s always a clear victor in cases like this so i’m gonna go ahead and award kevin devine the prize.

head over to spinner to get the scoop on the “project.”

video: kevin devine – splitting up christmas (2009)

based off the title, you’d think kevin found a way to make christmas sad, too. however, this videos extremely entertaining and the song is a good one. share a warm christmas beer (you heard me) and sing along.

video: kevin devine – another bag of bones [pink couch sessions] (2009)

a hi-definition up close and personal performance of k dev rockin’ “another bag of bones” on a…pink couch. brother’s blood is in constant rotation and will probably see a top 10 spot at the end of 2009.

video: brand new – jesus f. kevin devine (2009)

this is incredible. i would love to have mp3s of the daisy sessions (check sowing season here.) but could do without the interview bits in between. also, i’d like to just say that this is pretty much kevin devine’s take on ‘jesus,’ solely based off of the guitar parts.

i wish daisy wasn’t such a disappointment, but these will make up for a lot of it.

edit: thanks to tice for the heads up. i got a hold of all of the mp3s and zipped them up for you.

video: manchester orchestra + kevin devine tour update (2009)

love this. so a few things are in this video:

-andy hull and kevin devine making a tv show called “baby time.”
-goofing off with man o and k dev.
-manchester playing an acoustic version of “my friend marcus.”
-more goofing off.
-andy hull’s review of kevin devine’s latest album brother’s blood.
-andy hull + kevin devine covering mgmt’s “time to pretend” (so good.)

video: kevin devine – there is a light that never goes out [the smiths cover] (2009)

how lovely. i’m with cosmonaut, this is my personal favorite song from the smiths, too. kevin devine does this song a whole hell of a lot of justice, just like everything he’s ever touched.

audio rippers get to work.
