listen: lupe fiasco – haile selassie (feat. nikki jean)

it’s #FBF for lupe fiasco, apparently. for his latest outing, he takes us back to the days of the cool, brings nikki jean on “haile selassie.” that not enough? no other than longtime collaborator soundtrakk behind the boards for this gem.

his new tape, lost in the atlantic ocean, is coming soon.

listen: lupe fiasco – lillies (feat. sirah)

lupe will forego the release of tetsuo and youth (which is now slated for a january 2015 release) with a mixtape, lost in the atlantic ocean. this one is assumed to be taken from the latter release, which will drop sometime in november (i’m guessing).

watch: lupe fiasco – remission (feat. jennifer hudson and common)

after releasing “mission” for SU2C (stand up 2 cancer), lupe fiasco enlists two high profiled guests from his hometown for the follow-up single, “remission.” it will be on itunes soon, but for now, enjoy the studio footage.

watch: lupe fiasco – next to it (feat. ty dolla sign)

lupe fiasco’s lead single from tetsuo and youth has a lot more commercial appeal than i understand, but having ty on board definitely helps. no one knows what to expect from lu’s fifth studio LP, but the fact that people are still even remotely interested says plenty.

the album will be out later this year.

listen: lupe fiasco – next to it (feat. ty dolla sign)

lupe fiasco’s new album, tetsuo and youth, is slowly shaping up. glad to see lu branching out a bit – and the newest one employs ty dolla behind the production boards, as well as a featured artist on the track. radio rip for now – CDQ coming soon. xclusiveszone came through with a CDQ.

listen: ab-soul – world runners (feat. lupe fiasco and nikki jean)

MTV’s latest premiere comes from ab-soul’s incoming follow-up to control system, these days, which drops on june 24th. this one brings nikki jean back (damn girl, where the hell you been?) and employs lupe fiasco for a verse.

stream it above.

listen: lupe fiasco – mission

taking a break from controversy and rebelling against the industry is lupe fiasco, who’s dropped “mission,” a song for the ‘Stand Up 2 Cancer’ movement. the intro is an inspiring bit, featuring the voices of plenty of survivors of cancer speaking freely about the topic.

the song is available on itunes now, as well as SU2C’s homepage.

listen: lupe fiasco – THOT 97

lupe fiasco drops off his first track of the new year, but the real question is: who’s actually tuned in and waiting for new lupe tracks? anyway, in “thot 97″ (by the way, i had to look up what THOT is – and i just realized how white i am) he employs que’s “OG bobby johnson” instrumental.

and yeah, listen below.

watch: lupe fiasco – old school love [feat. ed sheeran]

my last experience with lupe was pretty terrible, because let’s face it: he’s pretty insufferable these days. on his feel-good track with ed sheeran, the video gets the pop-up art treatment that videos like bobby ray’s “nothin’ on you” received a few years back.

tetsuo and youth will be out in 2014.

show recap: fun fun fun fest (november 8-10, 2013; austin, tx)

While Free Press Summer Fest has our heart because of its Houston roots, Fun Fun Fun Fest long remains as our favorite Texas festival. Going on its eighth year, F3F has been known for its wildly diverse lineups and its dedicated stages to comedy and heavy music, and basically being the festival that us weworemask-ers can dive in head first towards and enjoy completely at the Auditorium Shores. This year’s lineup brought plenty of gems and rarities as years past, and we hope you can sit tight for this three-day festival recap. Hit the jump for plenty of photos and words about Austin’s best offering outside of SXSW.
