video: lupe fiasco on the colbert report (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.8489430&w=425&h=350&fv=]

always the entertainer, colbert brings on wasulu for a quick 5 minute interview and a performance of “words i never said,” which can be seen below the jump. oh, and skylar gray still sucks. evanescence wasn’t cool, and neither is whatever the fuck she’s doing.

video: lupe fiasco – words i never said (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.7301715&w=425&h=350&fv=configParams%3Did%253D1518071%2526vid%253D646945%2526uri%253Dmgid%253Auma%253Avideo%253Amtv.com%253A646945]

well, i expected a strong statement from mr. fiasco with this one, and the video definitely delivers. a powerful visual to accompany a powerful track that says a bunch of shit he probably shouldn’t have. overall, i wish i enjoyed the actual song more, but skylar gray’s hook is both cliched, cheesy and honestly, annoying as hell. lupe’s in true form though, seeing red on every single verse.

as lupe rides out the success of lasers, he stopped by the letterman studios to perform his now hit single on national tv with sarah green.

lupe fiasco – airplanes [original version] (2011)

so remember when the word was going around that lupe had both “nothing on you” and “airplanes” and passed em down to b.o.b.? well, we now have a CDQ version of the latter. i might be biased, but i feel like lu should kept this for himself. i could definitely see this album on lasers. even though i initially liked bobby’s version (before hearing it ad nauseum), i feel like this is a lot less “oh my god fame is le suxxxx” and a lot more along the lines of what i like.

lupe fiasco – who are you now [f. b.o.b.] (2011)

you mean to tell me that lupe let go of an archived album track himself? maybe the tides are shifting. this one, while unfinished, is still a pretty cool collaboration from the ‘past my shades’ crew. lupe wanted a third verse from janelle monae, but that never came to fruition. that’ll do, lu.

video: lupe fiasco – walmart soundcheck (2011)

all dope everything. lupe gets his own walmart soundcheck special; one of the least likely candidates to have a great internet video series. aside from a full performance (setlist: shining down, i don’t wanna care, go go gadget, hip-hop saved my life, beautiful lasers and superstar) you get a pretty great interview.

oh and the performance is full-on lupe. band and everything.

stream the whole thing at walmart’s site.

video: lupe fiasco – lasers [live in chicago] + stereo sun (2011)

[vodpod id=Video.5763445&w=425&h=350&fv=]

here’s a short video following lupe around on the day of LASERS’ release in his hometown of chicago. as an added bonus, a b-side/cut from the lasers arsenal has surfaced on the internet, and features eric turner, the guy who did the hook on “break the chain.” although this song is much, much better.

tavis is easily one of the best journalists working right now. thorough research and an earnest eat always makes for great interviews, and he shows this through a 20+ minute interview with the man of the week, lupe fiasco. for the record, lupe’s on track to do 200k+ for lasers’ opening week. clap for em.

album review: lupe fiasco – LASERS (2011)

So, after a long wait for fans and Lupe Fiascos alike, we finally have LASERS. There’s a lot of background to this release, some of which was touched on in the review. But for the most part, I’m happy for Lupe for a number of reasons, regardless of how good or bad this album would’ve been. There were a lot of bullshit moves on Atlantic Record’s part, and I really hope he either gets dropped (I’m sure he wants that) and gets to do whatever he wants from here on out, or Atlantic allows him to do whatever he wants with Food & Liquor II.

Either way, the review for LASERS is below the jump. And the album’s in stores. Go pick it up.

travis barker – city of dreams [f. the clipse] & if you want to [f. lupe fiasco and pharrell] (2011)

two HUGE leaks from barker’s upcoming album, which is dropping next week. i had no clue the record was dropping so soon, but if there are high quality songs like this (clipse and lupe both go crazy on their respective cuts), then i’m on board.

…i still haven’t listened to the mixtape though.

kanye west, mos def & lupe fiasco – impromptu freestyle (2011)

while a headlining set at jazz club the blue note this past saturday, the robert glasper experiment had a few tricks up their sleeve. lupe fiasco hit the stage (to be backed by the band) and played a mini set consisting of about 8 songs (mostly old) to the delight of the lucky concert goers. if that wasn’t enough, yeezy and mos def came by to skidaddle on the mic for about 7 minutes and be adlibbed by lupe. the audio of that bit has surfaced for you all to enjoy.

while this is cool, i’d be more excited if proper video footage of lupe and the band doing songs like “daydreamin,” and “dumb it down” surfaced.
