the week in sports: 3/25 – 4/1 (2013)

March Madness starts to wind down as we head towards the Final Four this weekend. It’s definitely been a wild and unexpected ride, considering there’s a 9-seed in the mix, and only one 1-seed. The NBA saw its two longest active streaks come to an end and we now have the MLB in our lives…”full swing.”

Finally, March Madness kicked off – and as expected: with a bang. We’ve got another Cinderella story on our hand. The Heat and the Denver Nuggets continue to dominate the NBA as the playoff race continues to move forward. Oh, and Tiger Woods is back on top of the Golf World, so that’s cool too.

For fun, you can take a look at our miserable brackets if you’re into that. Hit the jump for those, as well as this week’s biggest sports news.

Here’s this week’s edition of the sports recap. We don’t have a fantasy section, but we do have a full blown preview of this year’s NBA on Christmas matchups. Also on the docket is the NFL playoff picture, which is a little clearer after Week 16′s games.

Vish and I want to wish you and your family a happy set of Holidays, regardless of what you celebrate. Enjoy that non-secular “festive” tree above, and look out for our year-end “special,” coming soon!

the week in sports: 11/27 – 12/3 (2012)

All of the NCAA’s bowl games have been announced, as we move towards this weekend’s Heisman Trophy presentation. Aside from that, we had one of the most dramatic weeks in the NFL, with plenty of headlines. By now, you’re either talking an intense amount of shit in your fantasy league after making the playoffs, having your team completely self-destruct before the playoffs or you’re the Sacko of your league (that’s last place for you non-viewers of The League) – and you’ll need some pointers from our Fantasy recap.

predictions: nba finals (2012)

After a very eventful conference finals, we saw two teams solidify themselves as the best in their conference. OKC managed to handle the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs, putting the “young vs. old” marquee matchup to bed. And convincingly at that – after 4 straight wins against a team that just finished winning 20 straight. Miami overcame a 3-2 deficit after a historically impressive Game 6 from LBJ and a 19 pt. performance from “bench man” Chris Bosh in Game 7. A game 7 that will effectively end the Boston Big 3, which has always been a great team to watch.

I mean, this is what everyone wanted right? The 3-time NBA MVP vs. The 3-time NBA Scoring Champ in the NBA Finals. This is the first time the two have matched up in the Finals since 1997, so it’ll be a barnburner for the books. Hit the jump for our predictions, as well as our recap from the Conference Finals.

it’s an NBA christmas [predictions] (2011)

While the NFL is heading into its postseason on the road towards the Superbowl, The NBA is just joining the party. I’ve enlisted my cousin yet again to help me knock a post out, dealing with all the matchups and great professional basketball you can catch on your tube tomorrow.

-grizzly

After the NBA lockout finally ended, the NBA released their schedule for the first day of the year. It just so happened that they had marquee match-ups AND they all fell on Christmas Day. Below the jump, I give a little breakdown of the match-ups with who I think will win tomorrow. Don’t worry it’s nothing as elaborate as my NBA playoff posts back in June.

the NBA finals (2011)

Well, well, well. We have finally reached The NBA Finals, and we have ourselves a rematch from 2006. There are a few players that have remained from those squads, but the dynamic of each team has changed. In what looks to be a great matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat.

Now, there are going to be those who absolutely hate Miami or love them. There is really no middle, but I will attempt to find that middle ground.

Hit the jump for the analysis (because it is the Finals, I provided a more in-depth analysis)

Thanks

the NBA conference finals (2011)

After a tough series with the Grizzlies, the Thunder escape and make it to the conference finals to face the Mavericks. This Mavericks team that swept the Lakers has had many days off, so it should shape up to be an interesting series. The Heat got over the hump, and even after an over the top celebration, beat the Celtics and are going to move on to face the MVP-led Chicago Bulls.

Enjoy.

video: the miami heat on visiting the cavs (2010)

[vodpod id=Video.5030908&w=425&h=350&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]

came across this video and felt compelled to post it. don’t ask, just appreciate that us bears can indulge in the manlier things once in a while. anyway, it’s safe to say that 10-8 (pending upon tonight’s game vs. the pistons) isn’t the way that ‘the big 3′ wanted to start the season off, but here we are. with all the hype surrounding tomorrow’s game in cleveland, i decided to jump in. i’m definitely curious to see how loud the boos for LBJ are once he steps foot onto the courts of the quicken loans arena. it’ll definitely be a big deal for lebron, as he’ll have to sit on the other side of the court, use the visitor’s locker room and all that bougey shit. the end of this clip raises a question i didn’t even think of: WHAT ABOUT THE POWDER?!

anyway, tune in tomorrow when the cavs and the heat face off. i’ll be watching in between commercials while the texans try to survive the onslaught of michael vick and the eagles.
