Playoff basketball and playoff hockey continues to amaze us. This past week gave us some memorable games, including a instant classic between the Bruins and Maple Leafs. A soccer great, David Beckham, is hanging up his cleats at the age of 38. Oh yea, Ham and Squint made an appearance at a MLB ballpark. Hit the jump for your complete sports recap.

the week in sports: 5/6 – 5/12 (2013)

Playoffs everywhere, folks. The NBA Playoffs are shaping up towards a rather unexpected Conference finals (especially in the West), and likewise with the NHL’s Conference Semifinals. Tiger Woods is winning again, and Golf (and all of sports) is probably better off for it. Titus Young is a dummy and you’ll have to find another pair of legs to gawk at in the Sunday Night Football introduction.

the week in sports: 4/29 – 5/5 (2013)

The first round of the NBA Playoffs came to an end, but there’s plenty more basketball where that came from. The Semifinals is where you weed out the contenders from the pretenders and things start to get competitive. We’ll go through our predictions for the Semifinals, as well as recap the first round results. The NHL Playoffs continue to take shape, one of my (grizzly) favorite bands took care of the National Anthem, and much more in this week’s sports recap.

the week in sports: 4/15 – 4/21 (2013)

We try to keep this recap light and full of humor, but we wanted to take this time to make note of the tragedy in Boston, given the tragic events that occurred on Monday, April 15, 2013. There are terrible people in the world that do these types of things, but often we forget about the immense heroism that arises as well. Those law enforcement, doctors, nurses, and volunteers who have dedicated their time and resources to help those injured. It is a sad time for Boston and the United States of America. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected.

It was a wild end of the week, after the two suspects in custody were caught by our law enforcement. The first, older brother was gunned down and died later in the hospital; while the younger brother is in critical condition after being caught Friday night. Hope justice gets its chance to be served.

Sports often provides a great escape from reality, but after the Bruins postponed their game and the Celtics cancelled their game. However in their first games back, the Bruins and Red Sox provided some amazing moments. Check them out below.

After the jump you can find what we do best, including the first round predictions of the NBA playoffs and NFL draft.

March Madness starts to wind down as we head towards the Final Four this weekend. It’s definitely been a wild and unexpected ride, considering there’s a 9-seed in the mix, and only one 1-seed. The NBA saw its two longest active streaks come to an end and we now have the MLB in our lives…”full swing.”

Well folks, it’s here. The end of the NFL season. We feel terrible, but at least we have a pretty sweet matchup for the last game of the year. The Week in Sports will try to pick up the slack, considering there will be a gaping hole in this recap without any fantasy, playoffs, etc. But hey, March Madness is approaching, and the second half of the NBA season is always kind of exciting. And hey, baseball!

the week in sports: 1/8 – 1/14 (2013)

This weekend’s Divisional Round proved again why this strangely happens to be the best weekend in football (save for the end of our beloved Houston Texans season). The Conference Championships are set and will take place Sunday, as we move closer to the Super Bowl. Huge move for the NBA and Nike – and we saw Alabama repeat as National Champions for the second year in a row.

We have a new Heisman Trophy winner and another big week in the NFL, with plenty of drama for everyone and their mamas. Other than that, a handful of college football coaching moves, Marquez and Pacquiao fought for a fourth time, and the NBA is on TV. And our fantasy round-up is missing, but only for now. It’s about that time (exams, finals, suicide watch, etc) in grad school, so thevhb will update this as soon as possible!
