now i’m not sure what the event is, but it seems like a lowkey open mic of sorts. j cole, who’s been fairly under the radar as of late, took to the stage to talk a bit about his past, and even premiered a verse from a new track. and although we don’t know where “chaining day” will land, it sounds good from here.
yes, at eight minutes, tune-yards performed one weird and lengthy new jam at this year’s pop montreal festival. the always confident merrill garbus is accompanied by a a few backup singers pulling a “dirty projectors” round as well as her signature ukelele.
yup. that up there is the album cover for the get up kids’ there are rules. nice nails, right? below you can download a new song from said album, the aggressively happy “pararelevent”. these guys really are taking their new music in different directions. me rikey.

we’ve heard jens lekmen’s warm, croon touch on mundane subjects like cutting the tip of your finger while slicing avocados, or his favorite haircut. at la’s mondrian hotel however, the gentle swede poured his stalker heart out to a one, kirsten dunst, in a new song titled “snaggle tooth… ,” or erm, “the kirsten dunst song.”
taken from the as-yet-untitled third lp from aussies cut copy, “where i’m going” is the first track to rear its hypnotically sunny head. production was handled by ben allen, a man responsible for that one minor album, merriweather post pavillion a while back. sound familiar? it’s yours for the price of an e-mail addy, as is the way of the “aussie philosophy.”

when last i saw bss, they were playing one of their last shows of 2009 at houston’s free press summerfest and breaking up fights (unlike this girl). now they’re back with a new song from their upcoming album, forgiveness rock record, and the album artwork to boot. check that and their upcoming tour dates after the jump.
broken social scene – world sick
quest coming through in the new year with a new mixtape to follow up the house favorite broken headphones that dropped last summer. this mixtape’s purpose is to bring quest back into rotation as he prepares his upcoming project the reason: a defense mechanism. tracklisting below the jump.

looks like we’ve got a new track from one of the most talented young cats on the scene. you’ve read us talking about wanting to hear nero go over some new production instead of other rapper’s beats for a minute now, and now we’ve got our wish (granted the snare is too loud, still a nice beat). i’m definitely liking what’s going on with the track. nero’s also put up a new website and blog, so be sure you get at that. mixtape coming.
visit nero’s blog, champagne ‘yote.
nero – far away from here.
before we start:
1. HUGE guilty pleasure, but i can hide behind my computer screen – so it’s ok.
2. HUGE late pass with this.
so i heard this song out the other night and shazam’d it to find out it was keri hilson. it was confusing to me, because i had heard her record and don’t ever remember being this stoked about any of the songs on that album. after a little research, *cough*, i would find out that this song was recorded for some german movie. not to mention the subsequent music video, re-release of her album, et al. how could this fly under the radar so bad?
this song is great, and easily her best song to date. i luv u keri.

xxl magazine liberates a mos outtake which i’d presume was from the blakroc sessions. either way – rather short, but rather dope. i’ll take it. y’all got the ecstatic yet?

after hours of speculation as to what the timer over on vampire weekend’s website ithinkuracontra.com would lead up to (i personally was looking forward to boat shoes exploading from my pc) the band regale us with a new track from the upoming album, contra. perhaps horchatas will be the new ‘double whisky coke no ice’ for hipsters?

posthumous releases are always a treat and this unreleased elliott smith track “grand mal” from the xo era has been released from it’s underground vault to wreck havok upon us all (much like the rancor i’d imagine). well in the way that an elliott smith song can ravage emotions that is.

following the now infamous “barcelona breakdown” of wavves singer/guitarist nathan williams, he has bounced back quite resiliently, inducting hella’s zach hill into his noise-pop project and churning out some jam-worthy tunes. the latest, dubbed ‘hula hoop’ is a punk-rock frenzy that finds williams spouting blitzkrieg adeges of “going insane and i can’t take it!”. hill’s a treat to watch too, isn’t he?

i’m not going to try to better the blurb written over on the daytrotter page regarding suckers. ‘a jubilant squeeze of pulp’, ‘euphoric joyousness’ and ‘testament to all things that have wings’? seriously?!?
yes, i get all that listening to new suckers songs.
