“acoustic” is a hasty way to put it. this video has much more to offer. the always endearing lykke li gives an “alternative” take of a performance of her latest single from wounded rhymes, which drops tomorrow. awesome blossom, extra awesome.

if his performance on fallon wasn’t enough of an indication, sufjan stevens’ new video for “too much” off his age of adz lp is an odd one. featuring all manner of robotic dance moves, a spattering of technicolor effects and outrageous apparel, american if i’m not mistaken, sufjan and friends vogue it out in this chopped up, spazzy video.

last week, all the remaining in-store performances jónsi had lined up in support of his album go were canceled out of the blue. his management issued a statement that read:
“…We, the management, are going to take the blame here, since it was us who thought this was a great opportunity to counterpoint the weight and scale of production at his theatrical shows with something super low-key and intimate. We talked him into it. And we stand by the fact that it is a great idea… on paper. Jonsi himself, however, was always sceptical about how in would pan out in reality. And standing there nose-to-nose with fans in the cold light of day the other day in Origami Records, Los Angeles, he had the sudden and undeniable realisation that this is not the environment in which he flourishes. Arguably it was the most uncomfortable experience of his ten years in the public eye, and as a result we are unwilling to put him in the line of fire again…”
the footage recorded here of jónsi’s one and only acoustic in-store at l.a.’s origami vinyl, seems to be nothing short of intimate and amazing. it’s a shame that the sigur rós frontman would feel so out of his element as to cancel all future in-stores. catch him performing “go do” and “stars in still water” after the jump.

wwm darlings local natives make their late night television debut with a stop at the late late show with craig ferguson. easily one of the better sounding late night tv performances i’ve ever seen. most bands sound like shit. leave it to these boys to show ‘em how it’s done, beautifully at that.

damon albarn and company john bobby womack in a completely normal and eerily awkward human form of the gorillaz to perform ‘stylo’ on the colbert report. i mean, there isn’t a singel thing wrong with the performance, but i don’t watch nearly enough gorillaz performances to know whether or not they’ve done this before. in any case, this is quite the contrast to the massive spectacle the pied pipers of animated hip-hop/pop hybrids put on this past weekend at coachella.
plastic beach is blowing up as expected and is in stores now.

this is definitely a nice idea i could see really taking off. manchester orchestra walks into some store, tries on some clothes and play songs – all of which is directed in a sexy manner. fairly simple. now all we need is a band with a real fashion sense a few meters away from the whole dirty ass hipster stigma that’s plagued us in the past few years. the performance and andy hull’s lumberjack beard are fantastic and dead-on, though.

cannot get enough of this band. the group stopped by KCRW’s morning becomes eclectic show to chat it up and perform a handful of songs off of gorilla manor. so far i’ve only gotten through about four songs, and they’ve jammed out “airplanes,” “cards and quarters,” “sticky thread” and currently rocking “shape shifter.” can’t wait to watch the rest.

so to keep it brief, all three of the bears got to see mayer hawthorne & the county destroy all three of texas’ most tour capable cities. panda caught them in dallas (recap coming very soon), grizzly and sunbear caught the houston show and all three of us would catch him again in austin during sxsw. needless to say, it was a great 3-day stint filled with soul, dancing and a lot of booze. up top is a video of the county’s take on n.e.r.d’s “fly or die,” an obvious highlight of the night.

we were lucky enough to catch 88-keys do his thing for a quick 20-minute set at sxsw, so here’s a bit of footage of him doing ‘handcuff em’ with izza kizza, live and direct atop a couch in the middle of the light bar. due to the ‘staging’ area being on the floor, 88 decided he was too short and wanted to rock on the crowd’s level. hence, the couch.
sorry, it’s shaky. we were getting down, and i’m not the tallest guy either.

awwww naw. we’re not done posting the hell out of everything hoobastank vampire weekend (only makes sense if you watched the episode) touches. the new york boys stopped by the snl studios yet again for two flawless* performances of contra standouts. above is “cousins,” and below the cut is “giving up the gun.”

“little lion man” was one of every single bear’s favorite songs of 2009, and this performance leaves little room for explanation as to why. this performance is completely spot-on, as the quartet pretty much laid the vocal onslaught to waste. yeah, i went there.
also, i love how linear their set up is on stage.

one of the best performances of the evening. sir elton john joins the lady of 2009 on stage for an incredibly pyrotechnic version of “speechless,” after having been ushered onstage by some guy from hairspray. she also did a snippet of ”poker face”, which was quickly forgotten and overshadowed.

wasn’t expecting this. relatively low-key and overall overlooked GOOD music artist (let’s face it, it’s probably deserved all hudsons and cudis considering) hit the kimmel stage the other night to do a pretty solid performance of his lead single “mesmerized” with danny klein. he also played the show off the air with “follow me.” two of the only good tracks on the album, coincidentally.
doe has a lot of potential (we major, disperse) and needs to channel all heat and bring it for the next album.

fun. could not be more on point, seriously. the group recently sat down with paste magazine for an acoustic session/interview hoopla. they performed four songs, including: all the pretty girls, at least i’m not as sad, the gambler and walking the dog.
