mateo works his studio recreation magic and centers a song around kanye’s “power,” but not before enlisting the re-up gang for two cray cray verses. his new mixtape, love and stadiums (cool name), coming real soon.
yes, i flipped the songwriting credit on the first half of that header because: 1. you don’t really care about jared leto’s silly little wannabe linkin park band, and 2. kanye west didn’t fly hafway around the world to play second fiddle to blondie.
for 30 seconds to mars’ mtv ema performance they performed their ye featured track “hurricane,” after which kanye took over to perform his music video lengthed versin of “power.” cool stuff ranges from 3:07 to 5:25. jared leto’s silly pants with too many zippers can be seen from 0:01 to infinity.
edit: MTV video now. screwed all that time stamp shit up.
here’s the audio from the “power” remix that ye performed on his mpc 2000 on his runaway short film. it’s all samples and strings and pretty damn dramatic.
this will be the official album artwork for the deluxe version of my beautiful dark twisted fantasy if purchased via itunes. it comes updated with the bonus track “see me now,” as well as the runaway film.
if you’re reading this website than i assume you did your civic duty and tuned in to the kanye’s directorial, writing, and starring vehicle runaway last night on one of the three major music channel outlets that aired it. filled with 9 songs from the upcoming album, a theme of discrimination, model/feathered sex goddess selita ebanks, and kanye’s usual eye for the avant garde, runaway was, as the album title implies: a beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy.
also for those of you living under a rock, the man of the hour surprised all last night at the brooklyn bowl by making an appearance at the fool’s gold 3 year anniversary party. being introduced by his former dj and owner/founder of fool’s gold, a-trak, kanye came out to perform a mini set consisting of songs from my beautiful dark twisted fantasy to the hysterical masses. hit the jump for videos of “so appalled,” “monster,” “power,” “devil in a new dress,” and “runaway.”
having the single greatest performance on SNL is kind of an indirect way of saying “fuck snl and the whole cast,” don’t you think? ye transforms the entire SNL stage to something highly remniscient of heaven. let’s face it, this is the closest any of us will get to a place like that, amirite? but seriously, i was awe-struck when i saw this for the first time. to my (not-so) vast knowledge of SNL performances, i can’t recall a single time where the performances didn’t look like they were on snl. the film crew did a fine job, as did the man of the hour.
two giants hop on the remix of one of kanye’s biggest songs. but honestly, ye snapped on this shit. nobody’s touching the original, and no one’s touching the remix now, either.
is this a bad joke? what the hell is this shit? anyway, his album was pushed back, but i can have a bit of patience for this one. plus it’ll give all of us a chance to absorb all of september’s awesome releases.
back to the video…HUH?
edit: ok here’s my official backpedal: i guess i could blame MTV for calling this a music video and hyping it up to no end, which is probably why i was so agg’d at the fact that it was 90 seconds. since that premiere, i’ve ended up watching the video about 7 more times. it’s not that the video is growing on me, because i still think it’s ridiculous. it’s more or less the fact that this video makes complete sense to me now. ye didn’t really need to make a music video, rather a statement. through the hybrid of apocalyptic and spiritual imagery, we just have kanye standing there doing what he does best: getting people to talk about all of the self-indulgent grandiose shit that he always takes part in. i never really saw this song getting a video treatment to begin with, so i can’t say i’m surprised that he settled with this wtf-inducing clip for ‘power.’ the whole situation (ha ha, jersey shore y’all.) really takes you back to when he premiered the ‘flashing lights’ video. all in all, the dude’s out of his fucking mind and he’s got people talking. mission accomplished.
kanye premieres ‘power’ in f’n singapore of all places. what’s with the neon suit? it’s ugly, but as far as stage attire goes, me likey. hit the cut for the ‘freestyle’ he rambled for 5 minutes after power.
a completely left-field, eerie and intense behind the scenes look at kanye west’s video for ‘power.’ i might’ve read the video is dropping tomorrow on MTV, but i might’ve just imagined reading that. stay tuned.
factz does his thing and gives a run at kanye’s “power”. unfortunately, this one falls flat. honestly, it just sounds like rhymes he could’ve spit on any beat, done over a beat that no one should touch. just one bear’s opinion though. thoughts?
here you go folks. kanye’s first televised performance of “power.” appropriated supplemented by a gigantic mountain and the biggest jesus chain i’ve ever seen. in case you missed it, kanye west, cudi and big sean will all be dropping albums on the same day. thank them later.
i’ve enjoyed live blogging in the past, and since i’m home this fine sunday evening, i’ll be joining the interwebs for the up-to-the-minute updates and quips about the bet awards this year. it should be a good one, especially as far as performances are concerned. kanye west is back, opening this noise up with “power.” among west, there’s drizzy, em, usher, luda, t.i. and god knows who else. anything will be better than the shenanigans of last year.
the louis vuitton don ensures that the premature leak of last friday’s ‘power’ doesn’t go unnoticed, and drops off a mastered version today, complete with the artwork. he also managed to put together his own batch of headlines from some of today’s top media outlets. the general consensus on ‘power’ is that it’s the second coming of christ, and i couldn’t agree more.
worth noting was the album on the id3 tag was left to mere “????,” hinting that the title may not be good ass job like we’ve all been thinking. AOTY, regardless.
