REM called it quits earlier this week, by the way. and that’s real sad. coldplay decided on “everybody hurts” for a tribute at one of their shows, a kind and noble gesture by the englishmen.

though we’ve pretty much heard the majority of r.e.m.’s fifteenth (count ‘em) album collapse into now, npr has the whole album streaming over on their site. it’s nice to hear the album as a whole, a more expansive, massive sound than in earlier albums.

bye bye lyrics video. r.e.m.’s got an actual moving vid for their collapse into now track “mine smell like honey.” the clip plays like a flipbook with stipe doing his best prone position as he’s tossed up a flight of stairs.
collapse into now is out march 8th, but don’t expect a tour anytime soon.

the decemberists have just announced a slew of tour dates in support of their upcoming album the king is dead, due out january 18th with wye oak and mountain man as direct support. here too, is a teaser trailer of the band in studio set to the tune of the r.e.m.-tinged title track.

portland oregon’s titans of tweed, the decemberists, are set to release the much anticipated follow-up to 2009′s the hazards of love. the album is titled the king is dead and the official 10 song tracklist can be found below, a trio of which, have already been performed live in some fashion or another in the past year.
the decemberists have collaborated with peter buck on the record and are said to have been inspired by the r.e.m. guitarist’s brand of “straightforward, driving folk/rock,” which is in stark contrast to the epic rock opera of their most recent album.
