[vodpod id=Video.11855700&w=425&h=350&fv=]

sartorial sounds was a live event recently hosted by the gentlemen of street etiquette, and featured names we’ve dropped around here before including jesse boykins III, mara hruby, and theo martins. the above flick features small clips from all involved. and you know that had to have been the best dressed audience ever.

the dust bowl known as austin’s fun fun fun fest continued with it’s final day and biggest achievement to date, the reunion of the illustrious punk band, the descendents. stepping up when an injury sidelined planned headliners devo, the legendary west coast punk band set out for austin for their first live show in nearly a decade, causing a stir amongst festival goers. this once in a lifetime act would be joining the likes of best coast, deerhunter, p.o.s., mastadon, suicideal tendencies, yelle and more for the final day of fun fun fun fest.

festival recap: fun fun fun fest [day one] (2010)

Fun Fun Fun Fest once again descended upon Austin, Texas for its 2010 edition, corralling the best of crust-punk, pretentious indie, left field hip-hop, stoner-metal, and whatever else kind of music would draw the mases to the ten acre Waterloo Park for a three-day marathon of live-music, mosh-pitting, and binge drinking. this year, the festival featured it’s widest array of artists than any previous, from weird al to gwar, there was something for everyone. weworemasks’ sunbear was on hand to partake of said festivities, and the following is his recollection, as best he remembers it, of Austin’s 5th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest.

editor’s note: sorry about the extreme late pass here people, i could tell you that i’ve been busy with other things, but truthfully i was recovering from the two day ordeal that was the fest.

weworemasks.com’s sxsw recap (2010)

sxsw is a lovely time of year where all of our friends from various cities in texas decide to congregate in austin for all of it’s lush atmosphere (think about it) and an endless lineup of flavor-of-the-year bands. all three bears, along with our videographer of the week josh, @klainep and grizzly’s main squeeze would become the wolfpack to scour the streets of austin in hopes of catching something memorable and damaging our livers.

this year, we’d spend a lot of time at rachael ray’s showcase (a first), walking (typical) and waiting in hopeless lines. we faced our share of challenges this year, but the bears prevailed and left austin alive with most of our parts in tact. as if this 3000 word recap isn’t enough for you all, then we will have full sets (yes, full!) of theophilus london, japandroids, fang island and local natives coming soon. stay tuned for those.

now grab a PBJ or PBR and enjoy the tales from beyond the bears.

show recap: manchester orchestra at walters on washington in houston, tx (may 28, 2009)

this is a huuuuuge late pass, but better late than never. amidst all this graduating business, the job hunt and other things, i figured i had already written this recap, but it turns out i most certainly didn’t.

[ ed note: due to a scheduling mishap and a huge fuck-up on the venue's behalf, jerome missed most of the show in dallas, which means he won't be writing the recap as planned. doors were supposed to be at 8:30 according to the website, but upon his arrival at 9:30 p.m. due to work, he not only missed 1, but all three of the opening bands on this tour.]

manchester orchestra is currently on a huuuuge hype run off of their sophomore release, mean everything to nothing. normally, the hype gets to me (as it does all the bears), but this release is one of few that gets a huge co-sign from all three of us.

back in the day, tours used to be jam-packed with great line-ups and it just doesn’t happen anymore. however, the line-up for this tour was guaranteed to impress, and along for the ride with man-o were winston audio (interview coming very soon), audrye sessions and fun., all of whom played well and had impressive sets.

first was winston audio, who were basically rushed on and off the stage. the ATL natives blazed through a pretty energetic to an idle, but attentive crowd. touched base on and gave a really good preview of their debut album, the red rhythm, which is a great album. please check out the previous post on the band and don’t forget to keep a keen eye out for the interview.

audrye sessions follows, and i really enjoyed their set. i’m not a big fan as far as the recorded material goes (i’ve yet to listen to the album) but i’ll be getting on that as promptly as i can. they brought their own light set-up and while it was nice to see some aesthetics in the shithole that’s walters, it really turned the heat up in that place about 10-15 degrees. commence sweat beads. and note to all bands that play walters, be easy on me. i’m indian and sweat easily. it’s an affliction and i’m sure billions are affected. [ed note: i wasn't familiar with any of their work, but the last song they played was incredible. anyone out there have a clue?]

then came fun. for someone who never got to see the format live (don’t judge me. it just never works out for some bands. see: jimmy eat world), it was nice to see them play a couple of format songs for the crowd. i’m realllllly looking forward to the full length, as every song they played live was entertaining, happy and would be perfect for this incredibly hot houston summer.

manchester came, saw and conquered. i’ve seen them a handful of times in the past, but was especially excited to catch the first tour in support of mean everything. naturally, they didn’t play colly strings and i’ve yet to see that performed a single time out of any of the four times i’ve seen them. they did a great job of intertwining old and new songs, and andy was pretty much dead-on the entire night. hoping they roll through again with another lineup as incredible as this particular one ASAP.

third eye blind on tuesday. expect a recap, and not two weeks after the show.

myspace:

winston audio.
audrye sessions.
fun.
manchester orchestra.

hit the jump for setlists from all bands sans audrye sessions.
