sargent house is starting off 2013 with one of their best bands and a brand new album – this town needs guns’ first full length since 2008′s animals. the UK math-rock outfit plans on going on a european tour as well, for which you can see the dates here. hopefully they come stateside as well, to show off this new LP!
fang island’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2010′s stellar self-titled outing is only two weeks away. thanks to npr, we got the advanced scoop on such great things. turn your world upside down with guitar licks for the next 45 minutes and jam the whole thing at the link below.
the traveling feel goodery known as a fang island concert is hitting the road, and hopefully a city near you. along for the ride will be adebisi shank and zech’s marquise, both of sargent house fame. hit the jump for the dates.
fang island’s frenetic formula is tried and true – so why eff with a formula that works so well for these guys? “sisterly” is the second release from major, their second LP, dropping on july 24th via sargent house.
good old war is churning out their 3rd album in four years, and i swear i won’t be sleeping on these boys again. come back as rain is dropping this tuesday, march 6th via our friends in sargent house, but you can preview the whole thing below.
ok, it’s not a mixtape, but a compilation, but that’s besides the fact. amazon and the always lovely folks at sargent house have put together their newest sampler from the label’s roster and are giving it away for free, because that’s a cool thing to do.
for more information and the tracklisting, hit the amazon link.
the mars volta’s sibling band zechs marquise is embarking on their second album release, and sure enough, it crept up very quickly. gettin’ paid was released yesterday, september 27, which isn’t surprising because EVERYTHING came out yesterday. be sure to stream the album below and stay tuned for more news. hi sargent house!
RX Bandits have been a long time staple in my musical progression through the ages. I can’t say this about many bands, but they’re one of very few; an elite list of bands that have survived the 2000s on to the 2010s. I first came to love this band during the Progress days of 2001, and have continued to follow and appreciate their progression through the years, the albums, the record label woes and the lineup changes.
When word of the ‘farewell’ tour came around, I was a bit bummed to say the least. One of the most consistent and impressive rock bands calling their live aspect quits isn’t exactly the best foundation for a tour, but alas – there was no way I’d miss this tour.
the fine people at sargent house will be hosting their label showcase march 19th during south by southwest, and you can bet your ass the weworemasks bears will be in attendance. line up times are yet to be announced, but the goodness goes down at 7pm at Habana Calle 6, and features good old war, cast spells, native, and fang island. for this bear’s honey, you can’t beat that line up.
dear sargent house,
pls to help us find a way into this show. we are too poor for badges and need your help. we love you.
the sargent house twitter feed was constantly abuzz with how great nyc signees fand island were. one crazy video later, featuring president’s of past as well as fanny pack wearing dirty dancers, i’m under the spell of the frenetic power pop band. in a mere 4 minutes, the islander’s offer more blissful variations in a single song than most bands do in an entire album. heady stuff for such a young band.
the warm hearts of sargent house have put together a nice little split EP (hey, they do still make those) with two of their bands. bear favorites good old war throw two new songs with labelmates, cast spells. i haven’t been smart/dumb enough to give cast spells a good listen. this is my cue though. they’ve also been nice enough to do the nearly mandatory ‘pay-what-you-want’ dealy, so support a great record label if you’re not buying spicy mcchickens and dimebags instead.
another great sargent house band on the brink of releasing their new album, geneva, their full length due out on october 20th. you can download the first single/song, “malko,” over at nme’s site. it’s hard for this band to put out a subpar product, especially when they never stray too far from what made people enjoy them in the first place. always a plus for instrumental acts.
it’s no secret that we <3333 sargent house and it's fine staff/artists. here's your chance to fall in love too. the label just dropped their fall 2009 sampler (free of course) that includes the likes of good old war, rx bandits, tera melos, red sparrows, and more. you know what to do.
this is a long time coming, for sure. it’s hard for me to talk about those damn bandits without gushing like i’m 16 again, but i’ll try to manage. i got the chance to interview a band who i’ve been listening to since the year 2001. it’s always nice to be able to connect with some of the artists you’ve looked up to for so long.
anyway, i won’t waste too much time. hit the interview for chris tsagakis and joe troy’s thoughts on mandala (out in stores today), touring, dvd releases, chris sheets and a lot more.
